Red, White & Royal Blue...
I read the Casey McQuiston's book last year and I really liked it. McQuiston has published several books, but this is the one that called my attention. They have said that they write for people who like to read and the books delivered in that promise.
Now, if you have Amazon Prime and are giving Bezos some more money, you may have noticed that the movie adaptation of the book has premiered there this month. I watched it (of course, duh) and I found the adaptation is witty, sexy and does not squirm from touching topics that are actually quite up to date. The leads have insane chemistry and are very, very handsome (duh!). Is the movie faithful to the book? Well, not every character or subplot in the novel made it to the movies, but that's expected, no?
I am not going to detail the differences here in case you are an angsty millennial and read the book already but still want to watch the movie. I'd say that the differences enhance the movie and leave room for the hardcore fans of the book room to brag about their knowledge of the characters. Also, there's cameos by Joy Reid and my beloved Rachel Maddow in the movie!! *squee* and a cameo by WikiLeaks. And the casting of the two leads?? Flawless. Fucking flawless.
So there you go. And wether you choose to read the book (recommend!) or watch the movie (recommend!) I promise you'll have fun. And I know you like to have fun.
Happy reading/viewing!!

This series is all over Tumblr at the moment!
ReplyDeleteOh, they are the mood and they are the moment.
DeleteThe fandom is going at it with gusto.
I approve.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don’t give Mr. Bezos enough money to see this movie. I do agree that the stars are beautiful, and they have great chemistry in everything that I’ve seen them. They’re either great actors, or are genuinely fond of each other.
And many times movies will either trim characters or combine minor characters into one to keep the spirit of the original work.

Oh, you need to get the book at the library.
DeleteSo good. They have fantastic chemistry (happens with pretty people, no?). And you are right. That happened with the translation from book into movie. Still very good, though...

I enjoyed the book....but the trailor looked to bubble gum for me. You know I can't take these sweet sugary movies. And we all know how I feel about giving any time or money to Bezos!!!!! That prick.😂😂😂😂 but the one who is not the Prince is downright 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
ReplyDeleteSo you read the book?
DeleteWell, the movie is streamlined and his sister is not there and his parents are still married. Also, the Queen is now the King. But it's fun!
The prince is DREAMY. And he's shirtless quite a bit.
XOXO
It got a decent review from the NYT, however, it sounds to rom-commie for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's because it is a Rom-Com, Dave.
DeleteThe book delves into other themes, and the movie explores more than the relationship, but it is, at its core a boy-meets-boy, boy-loses-boy, boy-gets-boy-back Rom-Com.
XOXO
The guy that plays Alex was the first nude centerfold on Minx and he is a cute nugget with a nice ass.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm here for it.
xoxo
OMG yes!!!
DeleteHe wore a prosthetic dick, right???
And he IS delicious. Here for it too.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteOh, I have so much catching up to do.... But the wife and I saw the trailer and it looks cute - though she groaned at the premise. LOL
