Oh, Max...

You have no idea how many people I know consider the kitchen the heart of their home. I was just visiting friends and even though we spent some time in the living room talking shit and eating homemade chocolate bonbons, we spent most of the time we were there in the kitchen.

We were either helping with the meal of the day or waiting for breakfast or playing poker (I learned to play something called Dime Store and something called Baseball, and I learned that three of a kind is a very good hand). Kitchens have their own magic, and this house is not exception.

"I love things that look stunning and serve zero purpose". Same, girl. But aren't most collections just like that? I collect records, though, and even though I have hung up some record covers I play all of my music. We kind of see that he's half joking because his library is super fun and it does have books!

I love his quirkiness and his memories. It's his house, so why the hell not?

XOXO

  1. It's a lot of stuff and I always think less is more, plus you can switch out some stuff for other stuff if you don't put all you stuff out all at once.
But again, that's me and this is him and his house.
Shallow comment: I could listen to him talk all day.

I could listen to him talk all night, hunny. Love the accent and the cadence. And I kind of agree with you? I rotate everything around in my space. You know those IKEA cardboard boxes that look so pretty? Super useful.

  2. Nice color palate, but way too much zero purpose crap, could he possibly be a hoarder in training? 😎😎😎

    1. Yes!
I love his sense of color, too. I especially liked the contrast of the kitchen with the other rooms. It creates a very nice division of spaces. And I love zero purpose crap that has stories. THAT is one of the reasons I visit friends.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I love that his main criteria for finding a home was one that had a large enough wall for his cherished art. He does have a lot of things and many that are whimsical so he has a very playful side to him (sex room anyone?). I love the colors that he has chosen and the way he capped the cupboards in the kitchen, and the way he hides the utilitarian appliances.

Like Bob I could listen to him (and look at him) all day. His voice is very comforting.

    1. Ok, so finding a house for our cherished art is GOALS.
That's when I'll know that I'm affluent. Hahaha and you know what they say: a wicked sense of humor suggests exciting sex...
And you do have a thing for accents, don't cha??

Well, yeah, he's got way too much "stuff" for my taste. But the artwork is stunning and does serve purpose, doesn't it? The kitchen is indeed the heart of the home - it is the first room that nourishes. That's why I designed our home with the open concept eat-in kitchen-family room; it is always where people gather.

    1. Oh, the artwork is fabulous.
Love his walls (and that one in the entrance? yes). And I think that open concept places do place the kitchen as the heart of the home. Love that for people who like to host.

  6. Very creative I will admit....but I'd need downers and uppers to live in this house. I noticed I can appreciate collections on walls, but not everywhere. As I get older I'm getting big time minimalist. And I find when in friends' homes with a house like this I get jumpy and can't relax fully.

I do love his style. And his sense of color. But you may be right. The eye needs to rest.
I loved that upstairs bedroom. It would be my library/reading room.

  7. He's got some absolutely lovely and fabulous individual items but the overall clutter is way, WAY too much for me! I love the stair runner carpet though. And the cat!

I, for one, did not find it too cluttered (can do without the candles in the upstairs bedroom, though). I love his quirkiness.

    2. Oh no the candles have to stay. How else are you going to pour hot wax all over your trick?😂😂😂
