Oh, Mr. Carpenter...
There is so much about the art of Drag that most of us don't know that I thought it was pertinent to post this video today. When I was a wee gayling, me and my friends used to hang around many hairdressers, set and window dressers, florists, make-up artists and seamstresses. They were a rambunctious, loud, fascinating group that many times would morph into a gaggle of beautiful women at the drop of a stiletto.
Many of them were very well known in the scene, but one of them, Blondie (named after Debbie Harry, of course!) was one that always stood out. A statuesque almost-six-foot tall Queen, would reach six feet and beyond with the help of very, very high heels and the usual crown of blonde locks that adorned her head. Blondie was an incredible hair stylist. All of them were, of course, but I seldom saw anybody take a shake-and-go wig and whip it into a marvel of hair the way I saw Blondie do with many a wig or hair piece before a show. She loved her wigs but she also use hair extensions and the such to transform her blonde shag into a work of art to perform as her fav diva: Raffaella Carrà.
That's kind of what I felt when I saw @fenabarbitall whipping up these delicious concoctions out of almost any material that resembles hair. Blondie is long gone now, victim of some unmentionable disease, but her memory lives in me and in every blond mane that I see in some statuesque Drag artist who just happens to be doing Forte, forte, forte...
XOXO
P.S. It seems Drag bans are having a hard time. For now, at least...
A federal judge in Texas on Thursday temporarily blocked the state's law limiting public drag performances, in another win for LGBTQ groups challenging similar laws across the country.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner in Houston said the law, which was set to take effect on Friday, likely violates performers' constitutional right to free speech. Hittner blocked the law pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed earlier this month by the American Civil Liberties Union.
The ACLU's Texas chapter, in a posting on X, formerly Twitter, said "drag performers and LGBTQIA+ allied businesses belong in our state — and Texas politicians have no right to censor our free expression."
But you know that won't stop the bigots...
It's amazing what they can do to hair to make it rise above and scrape the ceilings. I will admit, because I have very thick unmanageable hair, to using Got 2 Be Glue on my coifs on occasion. It really does keep the hair in line!

Absolutely amazing.
DeleteAnd literally from nothing... *poof* a hairstyle.
Ohhh Got2Be is magic!
XOXO
A true hair-raising art form!
ReplyDeleteHuntleyBiGuy: I saw what you did there 🤣
DeleteHahaha
DeleteIt is! And remember, the higher the hair...
XOXO
HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteIt is truly amazing what they can accomplish with their wares. Now of course these aren’t your off the shelf costume shop wigs, but cost some pretty good money, I think. And they will style them so many different ways, or keep them in their stable of wigs for quick access.
This is quite an art form.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Oh, these wigs? They are not cheap.
DeleteBut with all the work that goes into making these elaborate styles, I'm not surprised. Talent!

Big says,
ReplyDeleteYou can tell he uses quality materials by looking at the forehead line. So many times, the netting is so very obvious. With him, the end product looks very real - even though you know it's a wig.
XOXO
Ohhh yes!
DeleteI think that's how the Queens (and people in the know) can tell. Some of those wigs look literally like natural hair.
XOXO
Interesting! Some of these wigs are simply jawdropping.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteI cannot imagine the time it takes to style them. And the care!
XOXO
A tribute to Raffaella Carrà? oh thanks! Gays have recognized her as a symbol of the LGBT+ world
ReplyDeleteOh, Blondie did Raffaella all the time!
DeleteIt was a sight to behold. Love her, BTW.
XOXO
