The Arconia?

Ok, so forgive me if I didn't know that those were mostly sets what we were seeing in Only Murders in the Building. Why? Well The Arconia is, after all, a historical 1908 building called The Belnord that is still standing in the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Only thing is, to live in one of the apartments in the 'real' building will send your bank account back around $10 mil.

So when this tour popped on my YouTube feed (YouTube is, after all, like a stalky, over confident ex-boyfriend who never really disappears from your life) I was all for it. I love Only Murders in the Building, btw. It even made me overcome my very strong allergy to Martin Short, an actor that I can only stand for -VERY- brief periods of time. He's in that category along with Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey. I can't deal with them for more than five minutes. After that, I either leave the theater or change the channel. But I stayed for Only Murders. I think it's fab.

I also positively love what they have done with these spaces and I think that it also tells you how our personalities can literally be telegraphed by our digs.

“For a long time, I felt ashamed to have a deaf son. It ended my marriage, actually. That and, you know, all the whores.” – Teddy

XOXO

P.S. if you have Hulu (or happen to now someone who has it), you have got to start bingeing Only Murders in the Building STAT. The first two seasons are a hoot and the third season is peppered with fab actors, those whose first names we always recognize.

I love Only Murders… This behind the scenes look is eye opening! All of the sets crammed into a small space and the amount of detail is astounding. And these apartments are HUGE! I wonder if the floor plans are similar to the real building. I mean the foyers of the apartments are about the size of my living room! The sound stage is such a maze of sets, you could easily get lost. And the tricks he reveals for lighting and outside scenery is fascinating.

And I resemble that remark about YouTube stalking you 😜.

Isn't it? And I love the host (gimme).
I could not believe those were SETS. I swear I was convinced it was filmed in the building! Silly me.
And you know you are MUCH better than youtube. And tastier.

  2. I enjoyed this video so much! I LOVE "Only Murders in the Building" and have watched Seasons 1 and 2. I'm waiting to watch Season 3 until all the episodes are available for bingeing. In October I will take a weekend and plunge in to watch the whole season. The writing and acting on this show are both outstanding.

  3. I need one of those apartments ... the one with the shutters between rooms. I need to start checking sofa cushions for change.

I love seeing TV and film sets, and how they move about for filming. This was a very cool video,

I'd even be happy with the small one! The amount of DETAIL!
Learning about these things make me feel a new appreciation for the people behind the courtain!

    2. It takes a great deal of talent to make these sets seems like real apartments, and I loved the little nuggets of truth, like the copy of August Osage County in Meryl's apartment.

    3. It's incredible, really.
      Also, I could live there.

  4. I thought Season 2 was great because Shirley MacLaine. They mysteries are too "murder she wrote-ish" for me. And it's nice to see Steve Martin being funny again.

    1. Oh yes.
Shirley was a hoot! And I like this kind of mysteries. I usually have NO IDEA who the murder is! And Steve Martin suddenly popped. And I love his hats.

  5. Love the show. There are more red herrings than a set of flatware and that makes it all the more enticing. The guest star roster is phenomenal --- ya can't do better than Streep! I'm not adverse to Short, but I'm with you on Carey and Ferrell. This was a fun gander into the soundstage. XOXO

And I cannot keep up with the murder mysteries and the suspects! LOL Every time I think I know who did it, it twists and turns!
And Streep is fab. The craft!

  6. Well you know me I don't watch too much American TV so I've never even heard of this show let alone to be three seasons!!!! And yes as soon as you said Martin Short I was done. Another thing we have in common, the same three comedians you named I can't take either.

    1. Oh, I binge watch a few series on HULU.
This is one of them. And I just can't with Martin Short. Bitch gets on my last gay nerve. Same with the other two.
