This is THE bathroom that every renter has encountered at one time or another during their lives. Literally ripped off from a big box store and placed on an unsuspecting house or apartment. Here, it gets the Cinderella treatment.

Kill the Golden Girls bathroom; wallpaper IN the shower? The toilet being the first thing you see when you walk in? Oh.Hell.No.

Laura had it going on with pure function --- right up until she went against her own statement about wood in a small, steam-filled bathroom; the vanity is a mistake. So, fuck her; she's not thinking straight.
Xavier's only mistake IMO are the sconces. They're too large for the space, I'd marry him but he'd have to change those out.

HuntleyBiGuy: As soon as I saw the mosaic in the shower, there were no doubts about Xavier. I love that feature. I also like the floor tile and the accent at the ceiling. But even though he has that recessed storage, which I almost forgot about, because he moved the sink and mirror by the shower, I still think it’s lacking storage. I’m used to having storage under the sink and a medicine cabinet.
ReplyDeleteI do like the brass shower and Laura’s tile work and the repurposed dresser. I also love the colorful wallpaper from Patrick, but NOT around the tub, like Bob said.
So give me the mosaic in Laura’s shower and it’s a wedding, and fuck Xavier all day long.

Wallpaper in the bathroom is very tricky. You'll have to either cover it with varnish or use vinyl wallpaper. I do love the spectacular effect in that bathroom and the tub.

No, just no. All of them relocated the commode (Laura changed from floor mounted to wall hung, and that also requires a significant plumbing modifications). Although the concept of the exercise is no budget limitation, I'd rather not spend any money modifying the basic plumbing installation especially if the plumbing tree is a shared common wall. No wallpaper in the bathroom is right up there with "No wire hangers!" While I like the idea of the graphic element of the mosaic, I'm of an age where there are several trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Facing the bathroom Guardian every time while I am half awake is a bit too much. So, Laura for the win - the relaxing tone and finishes (It's a bathroom, I'm there to take care of business), Xavier, just because he is yummy, and hard pass on Patrick - it's just too busy for my taste.

Laura's rendering is beautiful, not gonna lie. But I find it too safe. And I agree with Xavier. I'd take long showers there with him and I'd make sure I use those wall details to hold on to dear life.
