Oh, Seville...!

I got news that the Wiphe and her girlfriend may go live in Missouri in about three years from now. So I'll be in the market for a new place. Trust me, I love those girls but Missouri is not for me (Missouri is apparently one of the top ten worst cities for LGBTQ people!). The Midwest is fucked up as it is (and it may be worse in three years, natch) so I'm staying in Chi.

And the thing is, I may go back to living in an apartment. I don't mind apartment living, to be honest. and I kind of love this apartment. It's not too minuscule that you can barely move and it's not too big that you feel you need to somehow fill it with things (or pets). It has a living room that may double as a guest room and it's got clean lines and surprising bursts of color. It also follows a very non-American way of seeing dwellings. People in the US believe that they need all of the space,  even though it is the last thing they really need. Americans live for the space they may get, they do not use a space for living, natch. And I have to accept the fact that these two men narrating what happened to the apartment during the renovations, of course influenced my decision because I'm usually charmed by handsome gentlemen who describe what they did to houses. Especially if the results look like these.

I think I'd love to have a place like this: with the right amount of space, the right amount of closets and the right amount of color. Oh, yes. I like color. I think I should do one more of those intrusive little posts where I show you where I live, so you get an idea of how I look when surrounded by a few brushstrokes of color. I guess I'm in my Color era.

XOXO

  1. Three years is a long time. A lot can happen between now and then.

    1. I know!
But I am sure I will not go to Missouri. So it'll be time to look for my own place.
Who knows? Maybe I'll win the lotto and will be able to build my own house in Costa Rica? LOL

  2. I'm sure there are parts of Missouri that are Blue and LGBTQ+-friendly, but, yeah, on the whole? No.
As for the apartment, I like minimalism. We have a large house [for two] people, but we don't have a lot of "stuff." I like this apartment, but don't get the blue curtain unless you use the living room as a guest room. And when they slid the dining table into the niche they end up with a huge empty spot in the middle of the room and that makes no sense. I don't know ... I like some of the elements, but others seemed like they were just for show.
Now, THAT neighborhood? Yes, ma'am, I could live there!

    1. Oh, on the whole, no.
I have been to Kansas City and it's not too bad. Too religious and overridden by Mormons. And my goal is to live with things that I love and not the things that I can get. I also think the blue curtain is to divide the room when needed, probably at the same time they move the table to the niche? I think they're going for multi-purpose here.
And that neighborhood? Absolutely. Let's move there!

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I really like what they did with this apartment. The splashes of color in the nooks helps define the areas. But there is NOT enough closet space for you. I’ve seen your old closet and no.

I do have to agree with Bob about the dining area. Leave the table in the center and add another table to the nook for desk space or as a buffet when entertaining. I also like the angled book cases, that’s a great visual touch.

I know, I may need to get rid of some stuff. But isn't it pretty? It's kind of the same space I had in the last apartment, it was only two stories. And I like the multi purpose idea of the table and adore the bookcases.

  5. Big says,
This space is stunning. Yes, I could live there. Excellent use of space and each one has purpose. Those bookcases. That bedroom. Wow. But, Bob is right, add the desk in the nook to keep the dining table; easy enough to do.
As for Missouri? Ugh. There may be small Blue pockets, but you're still stuck living by the rules of the state. And those are not Blue. I mean, I adore what Ben and Erin do in Laurel, Mississippi and the city itself seems quite the diverse and accepting place, but look what that state has done in Jackson with the water issue, and what they've just done with the ballots. 1. I loved the space, too.
I think they got it right when they got rid of the chopped up layout and opened it up. Love the bookcases.
And I don't really like Missouri. Apart from Kansas City and St. Louis there's nothing there. Southern states are not welcoming. Nope.

But on the other hand, time flies! It feels like yesterday when I moved here. And I don't think I'm a pet person. Maybe when I'm older??

  7. Come to Minneapolis, darling. At my place the gin will flow and there's oh-so many places to go. And Missouri is a bit better than Iowa... but not much. I tell you... this country... needs more gay. Kizzes.

Minneapolis is actually cool. I've been to the Northwest part of the state. A friend has a cabin there, almost in Canada. And you are right! This country NEEDS more gay.

  8. I'll never understand all this need for space either. Every single person I know has a huge home, they don't use half of the rooms on a daily basis. Even where I'm at now the dining room and the one in guest room are hardly ever used. And yes I couldn't see you living in Missouri. I mean could you imagine the shortage of Dick alone?

I'm going to email you also soon.

    1. Thank you!
I am usually at a loss when I visit someone and everybody crowds the kitchen and the family room and NEVER go into any of the other four rooms in the house. Why?
And I could not imagine running out of dick. Nope.

      XOXO

      P.S. I'll check the email!
