Go back in time

Oh, Troy...

I sometimes wonder what it'll be like to go back to my hometown and make some videos, just like these guys here. Kidding! LOL No desire whatsoever to do that.

I was talking to my sister (who keeps in touch with a ton of people I have no interest in talking to) and she says people send 'their regards' all the time. I have never felt the need to 'reconnect' with people I knew when I was a kid. Or with high school classmates. Really.

Going back to your hometown can be a bittersweet experience. Don't yo think, Constant Reader? What about you? Do YOU enjoy this kind of exercise in nostalgia?

XOXO

  1. I have friends from the way back but I choose to keep them as friends, and most are post-high school. Just cuz I knew you then means that I want to know you now. Not bad, but people change.

    1. OMG yes.
Some people reached out to me when I was on Facehook and I though: I did not like you back then. What makes you think you'd be more palatable now? Beat it.

    1. Same, Xersex.
Facehook was a trap. I did not want to be their friends online, same as I didn't want to be their friends way back. And most of my childhood friends because drastically different when they grew up, so there's that.

  3. Big says,
Nope. No desire whatsoever. I used to spend my vacays on trips home. Then realized that most people couldn't bother to drive 5 or 6 miles to see me. Haven't been back since. High school people? Ugh. No way. Never attended a reunion and never will. They were all a bunch of assholes. The one real HS friend is still in touch via email and the occasional phone call. XOXO

    1. Hahaha.
I used to spend summers at home and that's when I discovered that many of those people and I had nothing in common. High school? I had some very close friends but they all got married and had children and became someone else. I have never attended a high school reunion. Ever.

  4. I do keep in touch with select friends from university, but not from high school or my home town. I'm not a sentimental or nostalgic person. Once I move on, I move on.

    1. Oh, college friends are different.
I see a bunch when I go to conferences. But I think the link it's different. We have more things in common, too. We love to go to a bar and rag about our bosses LOL.
      Same with moving on here...

  5. My primary care physician is in my hometown, so I go back regularly. Because of 4 years in the Navy, and then 4 years in college, and getting a job somewhere else, I don't keep in touch with any of the people I knew.

    1. Ohhh That's a twist.
And I can imagine that being away in the Navy and then college would break some of those links. Not to mention working away.
I literally keep in touch with about six people I knew when I was eighteen.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
Like most of the others I don’t have any connection to high school friends. We all went on different paths and I’ve never been to a reunion. I don’t do FB but I have had minimal contact with a couple schoolmates via LinkedIn. I don’t make connections easily so there are few lasting relationships.

    1. Never been to a high school reunion either.
And I forgot you are on LinkedIn. And you're one of the warmest people I know. It's unusual you don't make connections , babes...

  7. I have been back for a couple of funerals and my sister lived back in my home town for a few years. I went back for a 25th High School reunion, I realized I had little in common with the people all those years ago, and even less now. My 50th will be coming up in a few years, and I am wondering if I will go.

    1. OMG 25th?
And I can imagine that none of those people were the people you knew! Whoa. Cannot imagine what the 50th will be like....
