Et tu, Meta? (The answer is yes..)

@reckon.news

Remember when the Women's March became a global phenomenon after Don Poorleone's tape with the infamous 'grab them by the pussy' became public? I do. I actually went to the Women's March here in Chicago. It was fantastic. So many people together protesting Jabba the Orange was a sight to behold.

That march and many other events like it were coordinated and disseminated thanks to social media. But apparently that is a thing of the past. Now Twitter is a hellhole of fuckery, with Elmo propping up far-right and white supremacist accounts, Russian trolls taking over trends and a 'for you' tab that is everything but.

Now Meta (in other words, Facebook and Instagram) have limited the amount of 'political content' you can see in your feed. They went behind your back and didn't tell you that they were going to do this, too. Oh, I know you go on Instagram to look at pretty things (I've seen your feed) but still. It's sneaky that a behemoth like Meta would dare do something like this without alerting its millions of users.

We all know that WE are the product these social media companies exploit. There's nothing really 'free' in what concerns clicks online. But really, limiting the 'political content' in an election year? I smell a rat.

Notice how 'political content' is basically anything that would make social media interesting or worth of your time (yes, I know, you're in it for the chiseled abs, but hey). Anything that would make people think or that would help fight misinformation and lies concerning the upcoming election.

So if you like just the fluff, don't worry. Nothing will disturb your blissful ignorance of any social topics, government news or election updates. But if you are interested in something more than the fluff. If those half-naked bodies are just part of what you like on Instagram, if you are somehow interested in politics, this post is for you.

Happy browsing!

XOXO

  1. two observations. I have never been on Facebook, because I don't want to be found by former classmates from primary school and subsequent schools. People who have fallen into nothingness and must remain there.
I have an Instagram profile that I only need to see other people's profiles and talk to whoever I want.
Ultimately, Meta's decisions interest me very little.
If I want to inform myself, I don't search on meta. And I advise anyone against doing so.

    1. Oh, it's not the quality of the information.
It's the fucking disrespect and the lack of transparency.

    2. but you are aware of that!

    3. I am aware of that because it was published by other people in the app. This was a shady move from Meta who pretends to be 'open' and 'transparent'.
I don't like being lied to, especially by 'free' social media.

    4. you're not lied, because you know how you the transparency and openness of certain websites, social networks and apps work.

    5. Oh, but I was!
This was not disclosed by Meta. They lied by omission.
One thing is a default setting by default and another is manipulation of content behind my back.

That was trending on twitter and I bet Cheeto was PISSED!
Fuckery is indeed afoot. And it's an election year.

  3. Did you see Gym Jordon on 60 Minutes last night arguing that the socials should not be policing misinformation, lies, and total Russian bullshit? According to him, it's all protected. He and his cronies have managed to scare off the researchers who find and report the crap.
So, here's what I propose: Open those aps, create your own misinformation --- about them. Based on her voting record, MTG is a fucking Russian asset. Based on his refusal to report it, Gym Jordan is pedophile.
Sometimes, I think we forget that it can work both ways. 😁😁😁

    1. Oh, Gym got OWNED in sixty minutes.
And he insists on not policing misinformation because he's a Russian asset, too.
And I'm with you on talking about what they 'allegedly' are.

    HuntleyBiGuy :
I have an instagram that I rarely look at (only when someone posts a link) and have never been on your “beloved” Facehook. I do spend a fair amount of my day on my news feeds (both Chicago papers, mainly), and still get some information from trusted accounts on Xitter.

But these social media sites usually NEVER tell you what they’ve changed, maybe giving you the generic “we’ve updated our terms.”

    1. Oh, yes.
The 'we've updated our terms' that can be anything. Fuckers.
Hahaha Facebook is a den of fuckery.

I think everybody should tighten their privacy settings on social media (even on Blogger) and NEVER give more than what it's necessary to these leeches.

  5. I can't say that this actually surprises me. With so many people getting so far right and so far left and all the comments they get left on post... I can personally see why they would do this because of the hateful comments. But if people are leaving positive political messages I think this is wrong. You should be able to post political views as long as they're well-mannered. Of course I don't usually do political stuff on my Instagram otherwise I would probably be banned because I do fly off the handle and have a smart mouth. But this looks like just one more level and layer to getting people to hush with sort of violates freedom of speech. Boy ....Lady Bunny's going to be in trouble.... of course by doing this that means hateful Republicans won't be able to leave so many false and fake news political posts either.

    1. But I meant to say I agree with you there should be a notice to all members that they're going to be doing this.

    2. Well, the idea of political discourse is that we listen to both sides and we make up our minds.
Don't get me wrong, I think some lefties are leaning way too much to the left and are almost seeing the MAGAts eye to eye in what concerns criticism of the president, for example (I'm looking at cha, Lady Bunny!). But that does not give the social media companies the right to decide FOR you on what you want to see.
And the Repugs WILL still leave the fake news political posts, Meta will cover its ass saying that they 'protected' people from seeing them. See how that works?
And they should have been more transparent about the 'change'.

    3. Funnily enough...when I came back from Portofino, I almost decided to give up on my Instagram and online venues. But the Lad said if I didn't come back to the blog, I might be hunted down. LOL!!!!

And YES, BUNNY is none too happy about being limited in her political posts! She might bust a gut.

    4. Oh, we would hunt you down! LOL
And I like how loud Lady Bunny is. Is she always right? No, but it's great to have your own soapbox.
I think it was a dick move from Fuckerberg and his clan. They can limit whatever they want (they already do) on their platforms, but the users need to be warned...

  6. First off, "Don Poorleone." Dying.
Second off, don't change my fucking feed without asking me.
That said, I have an Instagram account but rarely and I mean almost never even look at it. But that doesn't mean Fuckerberg and his minions can change what I see and want to see.
Same goes for Facebook, er, Fuckbook, er .....

    1. Heh Twitter gifted me that one. Isn't it absolutely priceless?
And THAT is what pissed me off: they decided FOR me. Fuck that. I will decide what I want to see. I do follow the Dems and NPR, for example, so I do get some political news there, but that's because I want to.
They have no right to decide for me.

      XOXO

  7. For some reason or other, it didn't seem to effect me. I'm still getting all of the politics I had before, which seems to be a lot.

    1. Ahh
So here's the deal: you may be following some 'political' accounts besides your usual beefcake, or must have 'liked' or clicked on the odd NPR or SoInformed post and the algorithm did the rest.
The problem for me was to change that and not tell.
