Oh, cruising...?

And no, it's not about that Al Pacino movie.

But I do think that the Truvada generation (and some of the older gay men who should now better) forgets that cruising has been a gay activity for a long, long time. I was scrolling through social media and there was somebody saying that cruising was 'too much work' and 'dangerous'. But what would Grindr be but... cruising from your phone? Grindr and Scruff and Sniffies and the such have a veneer of 'respectability' because they are shiny and give the impression of agency. But when you're in the apps, you're literally cruising: you are looking for a quick fuck.

You may not be in a park at midnight hunting for dick, but you are still cruising when you take out your phone at your cousin Delia's wedding after you noticed the badonkadonk in one of the guys doing the catering. Same goal. Different means to get the dick. Cruising is a quintessentially gay activity. Straight men do not do it. Straight women do not do it. It's a radical gay pastime.

So how's your hanky code knowledge?

XOXO

  1. You're exactly right. Gay men, hell everybody, still cruises but now it's on an app and not on the street.
I cruise Carlos in our hallway.

  2. I frequent cruising clubs. This makes everything quieter and more comfortable. I'm so pig, but lazy!

    HuntleyBiGuy:
And even the apps will point you in the direction of cruisy spots, because not everyone is on the apps. And the hanky code is so confusing, IMHO. It has expanded so much and with such similar colors, I think they should incorporate the color name into the hanky.

Plus, if you have a regular fella, you can always cruise them via text before they head off to work. 😎

    1. Ohhhh I didn't know that!
It's been a minute since I've had Grindr, but I can imagine that the capabilities have improved.
The Hanky Code is quite its own language, TBH.
      Hahahaha oh, you flirt you.

  4. Cruising sure ain't what it used to be. But don't kid yourself. Straight folks have always cruised for sex. It may not take place in a park or on a pier late at night, but they did cruise. On the streets. And the bars. Now, they use apps, too. The advantage the gays had were those hankies - and the certainty of finding what they were looking for. Straights had to play some kind of cat-and-mouse game. It was tedious and not always successful. Thus, the weekly circle-jerks in the barracks. 😁

    1. Oh, cruising was THE activity gay men indulged into before the apps changed the face-to-face routine.
And I do know that straight people do have quickies and ONS and FWB and use the apps, but I also know that it is not as Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Man as it is with teh gheyz.

  6. Oh honey.....I have a PHD in cruising! I will happily admit it...and had sex in some pretty interesting places. The thrill of it and still is...though i curtail it a bit more now. But it still happens. And when a get a look while running...its still a good feeling even now in my middle years.

It's why I never did apps...give me the in person cruise and chase....that is where the thrill is.

Of couse you do! I think cruising (and flirting) are almost lost arts. The looks, the smiles, the small movements...
The apps are cold and boring. If a man wants to fuck me from the jump, and he lets me know: that's hot. I don't need the passive aggressive dillydallying of the apps.

  7. Thanks for the education, Sixpence. We thought we were "cruising" in high school but we also thought "cruising" meant trying to make out with a girl or get her phone number.

  8. I don't know about one night stands. While the thought is so tempting and there are shower fantasies I have had about it, in my heart, I have to know the person to actually do the deed (does anyone say do the deed anymore?)

Yep, I still say 'do the deed'. LOL
And it's perfectly normal to prefer to know the dude before jumping his bones. and it's perfectly normal to fantasize about getting it on with a beautiful stranger. Those are not incompatible.
