Let's talk about that 2024 list ....

It's that time of the year again, people. The Ten Most Banned Books in the United States. Yep, it's still going on. Funny thing is, there's more TITLES than ATTEMPST to get those titles banned. It's simple: it's an organized attempt to get these books banned. Beau makes some very good points here.

Oh, and guess what? The theme is: ban the Queers. There are some DEI glimpses, but most of these books target LGBTQ themes/topics. These bans target me and probably you and people we know and love from being represented. So what do YOU do? You read these books. You give these books. You take these books out from your trusty local library. You go for the stories that make us visible. You don't let them win.

This, Constant Reader, is why we need representation. This is why it is important to have LGBTQ characters in the books we read or write. This is why this fucking blog is Queer. Because I will not be erased.

Fuck the bigots.

XOXO

    HuntleyBiGuy:
Yes go to your local library and take these books out. Even if you don’t read them, TAKE THEM OUT! If your library doesn’t stock it, they most likely can get it from a partner library for you. I’m in a relatively small town in a red county. But the library system can pull from larger libraries in the area to augment their collection.

Like you and Beau say, use this as a reading list.

    1. A friend of mine who's independently wealthy, trust fund baby, buys these band books and then donate them to libraries. I think it's amazing she does that! And the libraries are usually grateful.

    2. Yep. That's the way to do it.
I always ask for these Banned Books when the list comes out, even though I've read them already.
And @Mads: that friend of yours is FABULOUS.

  2. I hope every library prominently displays these books.

    1. My little public library does a small display and I complimented them on it. Very ballsy, given that I live in Mayo Hell in the suburbs.

  3. Big says,
Beau is 100% on the nose. It's all about 'kicking down," marginalizing anyone they think is --- or should be --- lower in status. It's an attempt to erase. So, as you suggest, as Huntley suggests, buy them, borrow them from the Library. Even if you've already read them. Even if you never read them. Even if you don't plan to read them. Let's make these asshats know that if they try banning a book it will ony make that book more popular. XOXO
P.S. I shall be stealing this topic for my blog today. 😁

    1. Oh, absolutley.
That's the M.O. of the bigots. They really don't think that there's people like us, who really just use their list as reading suggestions...
      And steal away!!

  4. Conservatives have always hated books that make people think, and they've always complained about these books. These non-thinkers have recently had success with spreading their hatred of thought, though, the tide appears to be changing. The Trump era is dying, and when it goes, so do the Moms for Liberty and so many other hate groups.

    1. True.
The only book they like is the one with Sky-Daddy.
I really hope you are right and the MAGAt era is almost over. The KKKarens with Kasseroles did suffer a painful demise, though...

  6. And half the time when I read banned books I have no idea why they're banned. If people don't like these books they simply don't have to pick them up and read them. Stay in your lane conservatives!

    1. Mads, because IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!
They run around screaming 'think of the children'! And when you read the books you find nothing scandalous. But hey.

  7. Man. This book banning. It's so 2023. One would really think people would've come to realize how very lame this is. I mean book banning is to 2024 what being a Karen was to 2023. The fascists! They are just so lazy. Can't they come up with something new? Like, say... overturning Roe Vs. Wade, or enacting a law 1864. Or impeaching the sitting president. Or repeating Russian talking points. Or buying bibles from the orange ogre. I mean, they are such Johnny One Notes. Can't they be more innovative? Like, say putting up razor wire in rivers to entrap and injure illegal immigrants, or standing in the way of free lunches for school children, or standing in the way of forgiving student debt? I mean, talk about your one hit wonders. Let's face it. Conservatives are MEAN. Period. YOU NEVER HEAR about a conservative politician EVER doing ANYTHING NICE. You know, NICE - like regular people should TRY to be. Sigh. No wonder I live in a basement.

    1. And yet, they keep trying.
It's a cash cow for the bigots. They will keep beating this dead horse for as long as they can get some money out of the fake outrage. The Repugs do not care about anything but money. And power. And yes, conservatives are mean. Just look at their idol...
