Oh, just one issue…?

This is one of the things that is driving me up the wall this election period. It's one of those 'STOP THE CAR' issues Mads sometimes talk about. I wanted to write about the fuckery this bullshit has brought to social media but I found people in the comments who basically summarized what I wanted to say:

Oh, those 'single issue voters' who blast those of us who have so many times said 'vote Blue no matter Who' and have kept that mantra these four years. They're a gift to the MAGAts, to the Religulous Wrong, to the White Supremacists, to the Project 2025 creators, to the Right-Wing think tanks. I see them as idealistic and earnest and I understand their ideas but I also see as absolutely misguided. This is not how you bring change to politics.

Some Americans do need a Civics lesson. Seriously. Joe Biden is NOT a king. He cannot rule the United States as Camelot. But you know what? People really do not know how disruptive and obstructionist the Repugs have been ever since Biden took office, so they really cannot see how things work. It’s a simplistic, damaged view of politics. It harms us all.

And lastly:

I'm not gonna get in the Palestine/Israel tragedy here. Because there are so many other issues at play if Don Poorleone gets the White House again, that I refuse to explore geopolitics and the historical interference the United States have perpetuated across the globe in a blog post. There’s people here who can do a much better job when talking about that.

So there you have it. The next time one of those idealistic but misguided people whines about a third party and about how Biden and Trump are 'the same', and about how the American flag is covered in blood because of the U.S. ongoing support of Israel, just tell them that you really don't understand one-issue-voters and ask them to tell you how their Susan Sarandon-ing of Joe Biden in November is going to help Palestine.

I’m sure they do not have an answer.

XOXO

    HuntleyBiGuy:
One bright spot of political news yesterday is that the No Labels Party has been unable to field a candidate for president. Then you have the RFK Jr. looney toons show that still can do some damage, even though he’s only on the ballot in a handful of states, so far.

Politics is hard, dirty, and full of nuances. Single issue voters are naive, in my opinion.

Many things can still go wrong before November. We need to continue to blow the horn and get people to vote.

  2. You're right! Americans must look at the Big Picture in the upcoming election, not single issues and not wedge issues.

  3. Big says,
Oh, don't get me started. Civics lesson, indeed. The entirety of those single-issue voters makes me positively nuts. I keep saying: Biden can't stop the war; he does not govern Israel. He can't threaten to withhold what has been allocated by Congress. Remember how riled up everyone was over Thing 45 threatening to withhold funds from Ukraine? Remember how he got impeached for that?? That's how our form of government works. Geopolitics is fraught with all kinds of fuckery and, like it or not, the US is embroiled in that fuckery up to it's stars and stripes. But, go ahead, give the repugs the majority and the Oval.... Israel will wipe Gaza and the West Bank from the maps, Russia will take over all of Ukraine and keep going, and, over here, we'll be under authoritarian-theocratic (straight, old, white dudes) rule.

And maybe they DO NOT know. And that's even more scary....

  4. Single issue voters have always been pariahs. In a way, they're a lot like mini-Republicans with their mantra, it's my way or the highway.

    CAST A GODDAMNED VOTE.

It’s just like the election of 1968, many could not bring themselves to vote for Hubert Humphrey because of the Viet Nam war, and we ended up with Richard Nixon and all the misery he caused. The Viet Nam war went on for 6 more years and the belief, during Watergate, that the President has executive privilege and is above the law. Now it is all playing out again in 2024 with the Mid-East conflicts and Trump demanding executive privilege and acting that he’s above the law. Single issue voters better wisen up to how much misery Trump will cause the Palestinians and everyone else. They are just like the apathetic voters of 1968 who ended up with more war dead in Viet Nam, out of control inflation and a president who thought he was above the law. Let’s not make that mistake again. -Rj

  7. If I hear this from one more talking head... I am gonna run through the streets screaming (is it Friday? Oh, I do that anyway.) - Yes, Biden was slow to react. Yes, we complicit in genocide. Yes - cease fire. WHAT does it have to do with picking a president? Especially when your other option is Future Dick-tator Orange Ogre? Sure... neither is my first choice, but I'm going with the lesser of two evils and I'm voting because to not vote is a vote for Future Dick-tator Orange Ogre. Folks... it's not difficult. Why can't people wrap their heads around this and STFU?

  8. B. cannot govern the United States of America like a King, but I am sure that T. would govern them as if he were the Sun King. Even under the Sun King there were parliaments, but in order not to have problems from them, he did not he has been summoning them since he began to truly reign. But T., to avoid problems, puts his people in the right places.
Regarding the Gaza issue, one can love the Jews (personally I respect them a lot, because they are often very intelligent and very beautiful) and for this very reason, have a critical attitude towards the State of Israel and its politicians. I don't think this is racist.
