Oh, Am I A Lesbian?

The Lesbian Masterdoc is a 30-page document (once a Google doc, now a PDF hosted on various websites, passed around on Reddit threads and comment sections) originally written by Tumblr user Anjeli Luz in 2018 when she was still a teenager coming to terms with her own sexuality. First posted on Tumblr, the doc is very much a product of the platform’s pre-porn-ban heyday, with long (and endearing) asides about crushing on fictional or celebrity men, erotic fanfiction lingo, and mentions of crushing on Kim Possible’s Shego. “I created the document as a tool of self-reflection for myself and others,” Luz told Vice in 2020. The document has 20 sections, including one about “Early interest in women” and a handy one titled “You might be a lesbian if TL;DR.” At the end, her “Credit” section lists a handful of other Tumblr accounts that influenced the writing. Reading it now, the doc feels like an “Am I a Lesbian?” BuzzFeed quiz. It presents you with a series of thoughts and experiences the creator had concluded are common among lesbians. If you relate, you might be a lesbian.

@thecut

I think the never ending web cornucopia of resources for LGBTQ+ people is almost a jungle at this point. And I’m not complaining. Compared to, let’s say, twenty years ago or even ten, I think people have more and more resources to complete the journey they have chosen. Something that has never been welcomed by the bigots, of course. But nowadays LGBTQ+ resources are plentiful. One sometimes does not know where to look. But in instances like this document, I think it plays into its strengths and becomes a tool for good. So what do you think? Are you a lesbian?

Go read the MasterDoc (yes, you can do the TL;DR) and let us know!

There will be a test.

XOXO

P. S. Debra, I owed you this one after all the sausage parties I throw in this blog!

  1. Interesting document, thanks! I suppose for some women who are still questioning their sexuality or coming to terms with it, this analysis with its excessive overemphasis on men, might be useful or enlightening. For those of us long past that stage, a continued focus on analyzing the "true significance" of relationships (actual or otherwise) with men is the REAL manifestation of compulsory heterosexuality, lol.

    1. Oh, I agree.
I think that's why it went viral. I have to confess that I agree with many points there, because toxic masculinity (and compulsory heterosexuality) run rampant in the gay community. Also see: masc4masc.

  2. Big says,
There's so much out there it could make your head spin. SO much better than when I was a wee lad (in the days of chisels and stone tablets). Talk about struggle....

    1. Oh yes.
I read a ton every day and sometimes I don't even know what I would like to post first here! LOL
And you don't have to go very far to find that we went from a trickle to a lake of information in a hot minute. The second people started surfing the web in their phone, the gates were open.

  3. I agree with Debs and Pat. It gets to be very overwhelming....but it's great to have to many resources than not enough. One can peruse the different resources to see what and how much info they want.

As far as me....Im certain Im not a lesbyterian. I like to feel, touch, taste, kiss, nibble, suck, stroke, grind and edge cocks. Many cocks. Way to much.

    1. Oh, I agree.
I think it's best for the gaylings, who can find themselves starved for information about their sexuality and their need to connect with others like themselves.
And I'm also too much into dick to be a lesbitarian. Really.

  4. On the Kinsey scale I come down hard .... hard, he he .... on the fully gay side. Ia dore women, I find women fabulous, I think women should and could rule the world, but at the end of the day my heart and other body parts belong to my man.

  5. I really don't pay attention to those things, especially since I drive a Subaru and almost every guide says lesbians drive Subarus.

    1. Oh, but you ARE a lesbian, then.
It says in the doc that drooling over pretty men does not preclude being a lesbian, so yes. I've seen your Insta feed...
