Oh, Throuples, Love, and Getting Older, you said...?
I had to bring back @theoldgays. Of course.
I absolutely adore them! I bet they’re a joy to be around and they're really inspiring too. There’s always something valuable to learn from them. Many young people have no IDEA of what it was to live in the eighties and nineties. None.
The most powerful part of the interview IMHO were those reflections on connecting with older gay men, appreciating their stories and kindness, and their desire to create a fun yet educational show that highlights the wisdom from these conversations. It makes me think of Mads’ observations about chatting with older gay men in bars. We really need more of that in our lives! Pronto.
If you're not following @theOldgays on insta, you're missing out. What are you waiting for?

ReplyDeleteIt’s always a joy to see an interview with them. They light up a room and impart their wisdom and the history they’ve lived. And they are at that IDGAF point that we all strive to attain.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
They're a riot.
DeleteI love how they don't give a fuck about anything and yet seem totally innocent. It's fascinating.
XOXO
Older has always been wiser, except for when it comes to Republicans.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteNow, THAT is absolutely true. Just ask The Turtle.

Big says,
ReplyDeleteNo idea what it what it was like in the 80s - 90s? Try the 50s - 70s. Keep the head down, the mouth shut. Hide the car and sneak into the bar, sneak out of the bar. Or bathhouse, as the case might be. The Summer of Love was a breakout of sorts but it still wasn't an easy lifestyle. Yes, the 80s brought HIV/AIDS and that made things go backward. But Rock Hudson's death rocked that canoe.

Oh, the repression!
DeleteBut the late seventies were the Golden Era of gay sex, no? After the sexual revolution and before AIDS hit?

"Many young people have no IDEA of what it was to live in the eighties and nineties." -- The prime of my life! Of course, that makes me an Old Lez now.
ReplyDeleteThat makes you AWESOME.
DeleteXOXO
Thanks for bringing them back, Sixpence. We can learn so much from them and I am sure they are grateful they can share their knowledge with new generations.
ReplyDeleteHeh.
DeleteMy pleasure Mr. Shife! Older gay men KNOW shit. The problem is that younger gay men don't want to listen.
XOXO
Living history is the best history.... thanks for sharing this. They are charming rascals all.
ReplyDeleteCorrect.
DeleteI love their anecdotes and their bon mots and their life lessons. People think they'll be forever young. It's an illusion.
XOXO
You gotta know where you come from to figure out how to get where you're going.

Thank you!
DeleteAnd THAT is something that I find some GenZ kids are missing. Even the GenXers. And Milennials think they're invincible.
