Oh, Mighty Real...?

I am currently desperately seeking that Sylvester record. You see, I thought I had gotten it in a tiny record store in McHenry, IL a few months ago. With the moving and all that I literally forgot I had never actually listened to it and when I started organizing my records in the new apartment, I decided to play it.

Clue big disappointment: the record inside the sleeve was NOT Sylvester. I was gagged. And gooped. I had bought this record because it had Do You Wanna Funk (a fucking bop forty years after it was released) and one of my fav Sylvester songs. You can imagine how I feel now. I have put it in my 'wanted' list on Discogs and I hope I can find it soon.

Sylvester was iconic. And I don't say that about many artists. Don't believe me? Just watch the video.

XOXO

P.S. it’s always the Nelliest of the flamers who have the balls to be who they are. The Masc4Masc dudes? No cojones.

    1. Yes!
You have no idea how I felt when I took that record out. Ugh.
I have some people from some record stores trying to catch the record. It can be found in Europe, I think.

  3. Big says,
Ain't that the pits! (The saying may be as old as the recording, eh?) Who does that kind of thing?
The last time I went in search of an LP (from the mid-60s) I did a search on Google and found it for sale by a reputable online seller.

P.S. You moved??? No more "Garden" Apartment? We should want photos of the new place.

Oh, I love the 'ain't that the pits?' expression!
And I did find some versions of the LP online but they're all in Europe. I have some sleuths trying to find it here in the States, though...

And I did move! I forgot I was doing a series on my humble abode. I'll try to post something soon!

    2. Yeah.
I somehow can't picture you stomping the clubs in the early eighties.
So that video is almost custom made for you. A little bit of Queer history.

  5. I'm a huge fan of Slyvester and disco....and You Make me Feel, and especially Do You Wanna Funk are among my all-time favorites!!!!! If I do my mixes up at the Woods for the clubhouse or pool, you better believe Do You Wanna Funk is gonna be heard!!!!!!

Wait...MOVE?!?!? Did I miss something? And do I have to update my address book?

  6. Weirdly, I listened to this PBS thing before I saw you had written on it. Yes. This song? Iconic. Sylvester frequently suffered from issues of taste, but when they nailed it? They made a huge impact. The thing is... disco lives. Most recently... Miley would not have Flowers without it. So, it is unfortunate that the whole disco sucks thing happened. I really think it was partially a homophobic statement on the part of disfranchised white boys who wanted all the air time for more Foghat and Journey songs.

Birds of a feather and all that. I think Sylvester had some very seminal records. Some of the output was kinda average, but you are right: when they were right, they were RIGHT.
I love Disco. We would not have House or EDM or Garage without it. And of course that Disco Rally WAS homophobic (and bigoted and racist).
