Oh, All The Young Dudes...?
If you collect records (or if you have a turntable and enjoy analog music) you know that there's a period at the end of the eighties and during the early nineties where records seem to almost completely disappear. You can barely find an LP from that era. Not that they totally stopped making the, but it was the down of the era of the CD. And one of the victims of that void are acts like the Pet Shop Boys. I have been able to get some of their 12 inches (get your mind out of the gutter, babes!) because I love maxi singles, but I have just three of their Long Plays (Actually, Please and Disco). The rest of their music I have on CD.
I got into the Pet Shop Boys because I used to have a boyfriend who loved Parinaro, one dark, fun, booming jewel of a song that was the soundtrack to more than a fun night for us. I got back into them because I started watching It's A Sin (that is the title of a TV series with @OllyAlexander that takes place during the early AIDS crisis years in the UK and their song is played in the opening credits). I have random motivators. What can I say?
And then this video popped up on my YouTube suggestions and I just had to post it here. Because Time. How it fucking flies. All the Young Dudes today will be the Pet Shop Boys in this video tomorrow. Cause time does not stop, Constant Reader. It keeps marching on.

P.S. Bowie this.
HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteThey still look pretty good for their age, and they sound fantastic!

Time catches up to us all.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's SOOOO scary!
DeleteI was thinking that it was not long ago I was listening to that PSB's song!!

Big says,
ReplyDeleteTime marches on for all of us. For some, it stomps angrily! LOL. I will play my vinyl but the CDs still offer convenience --- you know, because not having to flip over an album after 15 - 20 minutes saves time. 🤯😁🤣
Hahaha
DeleteI hope it comes tiptoeing for me! I like vinyl because it's so much more quaint and it keeps me moving when I'm curled up with a book! I also love album cover art and the liner notes!

Big says,
DeleteVinyl has a "'warmer" tone than digital.
The liner notes! Oh, that was tradition when bringing home a new album: read through the liner notes during the first listen.

Mott The Hoople! Not my favorite cover of PBS, but what a great song. One of Bowie's best glam era songs. Thanks for sharing. Love PBS. VERY is my fave album of theirs. I am glad that vinyl is back... but I am not paying $35 for an album. Nope. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteThat's the original band. And VERY is fab. I wanted to have it because it had a bonus disc!
I only buy second hand vinyl, btw. New vinyl I think I have Bitche's Brew and one Power, Corruption and Lies.

It's got a good beat and it's easy to dance to ...
ReplyDeletexoxo
I know!
DeleteIt's their trademark. You can dance to most anything they've put out...

I still have a turntable, but gave a couple hundred of my albums away. I think I still might have the album with East End Boys and West End Girls.
ReplyDeleteThat's a classic and it's in Please.
DeleteClassic Pet Shop Boys. And I cannot believe you gave away all those records!!!
