When I was single (About 6 years in Seattle) I would tell everyone how busy I was with family during the holidays. I worked the Xmas eve shifts that no one wanted and loved the quiet stress free times. A very few friends found out and said they couldn't' t get out of their commitments, but they wanted to. I was taught by my parents to learn to be alone, because you always have yourself to experience life with. I learned to go to restaurants without reading a book or arriving early to look busy. I like most "holidays" alone, now with my husband, and hope others learn to avoid family induced stress during forced holidays. We just spent Xmas week in Victoria BC and it was a wonderful trip that gave us every excuse to avoid family dinner arguments, etc. Learn that lone is not lonely.
