Oh, a workshop...?
I was there watching when @shannel first walked in the workroom at the beginning of that first episode of RPDR. And I watched her again when she walked in the workroom in the first episode of this last All Stars permutation. It seemed quite the journey, so when this video popped up I was like, why not? I want to know more about this artist.
People usually have their own idea of what Drag artists do but for me, @shannel is precisely what comes to my mind when I think 'Drag Artist'. Both the uncanny transformation (she's beautiful!! But he's an attractive man, so there's that) and the level of professionalism that you get from what she says (and apparently does) is pretty compelling. Add to that the extra talents (her juggling runway that first season of RPDR is still iconic) and a very non-conventional growing up story and you have a very intriguing person who would of course make her be a very intriguing artist.
I really like the idea of Drag artists giving us a glimpse to the person behind the fabulously beat mug, the awesome costumes and the incredible talent. I'm telling you, I could not do Drag Brunch, let alone take part of a competition series like RPDR or even get up on a stage at brunch and be awesome. It takes charisma, uniqueness, nerve AND talent to do that.
I also like that she's very self-assured but at the same time that she never really got into the whole DragCon thing (until very recently) and that she knows her worth. And she loves Xmas (and is very successful at 'loving' it), so here's another one for the season!
XOXO
P.S. so how's THAT for a business model? And also, now we know where people put all that xmas decor!
It's nice to see the man behind the mask and learning the hows and whys of their choice to do drag.

ReplyDeleteWhat an unconventional home life he had. It really set the tone for his future and the success that she’s had on and off the runway.

Big says,
ReplyDeleteIt's an art form unlike any other. To be able to pull it off this well takes a lot of practice. And you nailed the final requirement to pull it all off flawlessly: Confidence.
