Oh, BAD FAITH...?

I did a tiny bit of research and found out that yes, my/our fears may be well funded:

Christian nationalism has a significant influence on American politics, particularly within the Republican Party and among supporters of former President Donald Trump. This ideology, which advocates for the United States to be distinctively Christian in its national identity, public policy, and sacred symbols, has several key impacts on the political landscape:

1. Partisan divide: Republicans (55%) are more than twice as likely as independents (25%) and three times as likely as Democrats (16%) to hold Christian nationalist views[2]. This stark partisan divide is reflected in voting patterns, with states having higher levels of Christian nationalism showing stronger support for Trump in the 2020 election[2].

2. Presidential support: Among those with favorable views of Trump, 55% qualify as Christian nationalists, compared to only 15% of those who view President Biden favorably[2]. This correlation is even stronger among white Americans[2].

3. Political violence: Christian nationalists are more likely to support political violence. Nearly 40% of Christian nationalism Adherents and one-third of Sympathizers agree that "true American patriots may have to resort to violence to save the country"[2].

4. Apocalyptic worldview: A majority of Christian nationalism Adherents (54%) and 45% of Sympathizers believe in an impending "storm" that will sweep away elites and restore "rightful leaders"[2].

5. Legislative impact: The ideology is influencing legislative battles in statehouses across the country, pushing for government policies aligned with conservative Christian principles[4].

6. Threat to democracy: Experts warn that the rising influence of Christian nationalism poses a significant threat to American democracy and religious freedom[5][7].

7. January 6 insurrection: Christian nationalist symbols and ideology played a role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, with many adherents viewing it as a necessary measure to overturn the election results[1].

8. Evangelical influence: Christian nationalism is strongly linked to evangelical/born-again identity and frequent church attendance, influencing a significant portion of the religious conservative base[2].

This growing influence of Christian nationalism in American politics has raised concerns among scholars, faith leaders, and political analysts about its potential impact on democratic institutions and religious pluralism in the United States.

So, if you think the bigots are not gonna come for you, you're wrong, babes. I strongly recommend this documentary. It gives you an idea of what the enemy is thinking (and planning on doing).

XOXO

    HuntleyBiGuy:
As I mentioned in your post a couple days ago, many of the freedoms obtained in the last 20-30 years are on the chopping block. They think they have a mandate and they’re marching forward.

All politics is local, that’s where the Dems have fallen behind and they need to reach out and reinvigorate what has traditionally made up their base: people of color, women, the Queer community, immigrants. This is where their strength lies.

    1. Oh, christian nationalists is correct.
THAT is what they want. A fundamentalist state where THEY have the power to put the little women, the Colored and the Queers in their place.

  4. Big says,
All one needs to think of is The Crusades....the violence, the killing done by the "Christian" movement. Then move forward a few hundred years to the Salem "witch trials" and the people who were stoned, hung, or burned by the "Christians." This is what they stand for and believe in. A couple hundred years later, here we are again. Fall in line, or suffer the consequences. History repeating because too many folks are asleep at the wheel.
