Oh, Doechii...
I’ll tell you the truth: I had no idea who @doechii was until the night of the Grammys when she said the following:
Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you, that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark or that you’re not smart enough or that you’re too dramatic or you’re too loud. You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are, and I am a testimony.
And then I saw her Grammy show and I immediately needed to know more about her. I am not a music expert but I was not disappointed with what I heard. I really liked it. So I decided to post this Tiny Concert as an amuse bouche for you . There's more to her, of course. The girl can tell a story. The girl knows wordplay. And the girl has things to say.
BTW, Denial is a River and Nissan Ultima are my favorite songs now.
And she's right, alligator bites never heal.
XOXO
P.S. that tiny concert came out in December. It now has ten million views. Guess that Grammy was well deserved. Happy VDay!
Rap / jazz meets big band. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mash-up, fusion of styles.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!

I don’t watch the Grammys, so thank you so much for introducing me to Doechii. Her poetry brought tears to my eyes and made even me feel empowered!
ReplyDeleteOh I love Doechii...... I feature her sometime ago on the blog. I believe she might have been on Austin City Limits once. That might be where I saw her. I love that show they brought so many new artists to me that I might not have otherwise heard of.
ReplyDeleteI saw Doechii at the Grammys and loved her speech, too!
