Oh, Trévon and Zachary....?
Yes.
I think people forget that their houses are enjoyed principally by… themselves. Surrounding ourselves by our favorite colors and things is a must. And here’s where all rules kind of go out the door and the whole “too much *fill in with YOUR pet peeve* mantra is just bullshit. Because people surround themselves with what they like and it’s just a matter of deciding if their tastes align with ours or not. It’s quite simple. There is no magic formula. There's no budget.
Take Trévon and Zach: we share a taste for grouping objects (like them, I group in threes) and natural materials, so I’m very into their place and vibes. I also think they give great advice when it comes to styling and using basic rules of design to make the best out of a space. Developing an eye for things that are aesthetically pleasing don’t cost a thing. They’ve also managed to make both their aesthetics merge and create a comfortable and stylish interior. Not bad for 750 sq. ft, right?

Big says,
ReplyDelete750ft in NYC???? HooWEE, they got money! LOL. The entryway bench is cool - but there's nowhere to actually "sit & take off shoes." Always group things in odd numbers to make it visually interesting and neutral with pops of color is the way to go. (But, fuck "trendy.") They have a lot of stuff but it doesn't feel cluttered (I love those faces on the shelf). No kitchen...but NY'ers don't cook. 🤷♂️
XOXO
Yes.
DeleteAnything over 500 sqft in NYC is gonna be expensive. Especially if it's in Manhattan. And I liked the distribution. I need to learn their technique because I do have a ton of shit.
XOXO
Big says,
DeleteThe trick to having a ton of shit: Rotate. Some up, some stored....a year later, change it out. XOXO
As Big says, "they got money!" They come across as pretentious, meaning they want you to know "they got money."
ReplyDeleteOh, Dave.
DeleteThey come across as actually not pretentious because they explain most things come from their business (they do need to have a successful business to live in NYC in an apartment like this) They do have good taste. The thing is, the apartment does not look overly styled or too artsy: those are the markers of being overly pretentious.
XOXO
Well, I do like a lot of their things.
ReplyDeleteSame.
DeleteThey look... attainable? I love thrifting, so this gave me a ton of ideas. I love the idea of the bench at the entrance...
XOXO
Now see....these two get it too. They know how to mix old and new... personal items ...and antiques and make it all work. I love the overall Vibe of the whole place. And it's not a highly polished house, but looks like everyday homes, one people can feel comfortable in.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's what I love.
DeleteI'm sure they have there some pieces that are expensive, but the personalization of the space is what makes it great. It feels like people live there.
XOXO
I like the eccentricity of it all, though I'd like a more minimalist style and then rotate things in and out.
ReplyDeleteAnd always group in an odd number; it's far more interesting.
xoxo
I actually think they are quite conservative in many aspects.
DeleteWe have seen other couples with houses that are much more eccentric. Just wait for one that I'm planning for an upcoming post.... LOL
XOXO
Too much stuff. Clutter. No. Especially in such a small space. I like function - not things. I'm at that point where I want to let go of things and do more activity. Also... dusting. :(
ReplyDeleteOh, I love their things.
DeleteYou'll see when I post my apartment why is it that I relate. And I've downsized! Also, they have a store and I'm sure a lot of stuff gets tried in their house.
XOXO
