Oh, Marcel…!

 

It came as a shock. 

Not like death is not always a shock, duh. But Tim Kruger's death at the beginning of March did come as a total surprise. He was just 44 years old, after all. It's always jarring when someone who is considered 'young' suddenly dies. If someone is let’s say, 98 or has been ‘chronically ill’, one kind of knows how the cookie crumbles. But someone who appears to be the picture of health and in his forties? Nope.

Tim Kruger was Marcel Bonn's nom de porn and with that name got international recognition after creating Tim Tales, the studio where the tops are tops and the bottoms like it that way. TimTales can be considered a little bit niche by some gay men (of course), but I think it has good production values and mostly seemed to employ gay porn stars that did not appear much in other studios.

One of the things I believe made Tim Tales so successful was not only the  absolutely fabulous endowment of EACH AND EVERY ONE of the tops in the site but the talent of each and every one of the bottoms who took on the challenge (and I be it was a challenge), but the VARIETY of gay porn stars that appeared in the video. It was DEI porn and I was there for it.

That's right, along with @rhyheimshabazz (who got his start at TimTales!) TimTales was one of the few gay porn giants who included (and includes) tons of men of all races, body types and colors in their scenes. You can see almost any permutation of 'interracial' on TimTales as well as the usual pairing of white porn actors in many a scene. And Tim was still very much part of the studio until the very end. I have watched more than one video where some extremely well-endowed gay porn star is banging a very lucky (and talented) bottom and suddenly, there was Tim, smiling ear to ear and VERY obviously happy to take part in the scene (and he was up to the standards of every other top in his roster: that dick was bomb) and help make that lucky bottom reach nirvana.

And you know what else surprised me? That most gay porn actors who had worked with him (and some who had not but considered him the ultimate 'self-made-man' for the incredible success he had with TimTales) had nothing but very nice things to say about him (some other owners of porn studios would not be so lucky just ask Michael Lucas). Across the board: well known gay porn actors, OF creators, retired porn stars. The works. How about that for a legacy? Don't believe me? Just check the #timkruger hashtag in any of your social media hangouts and you'll see what I mean ....

For some it may mean nothing that a gay porn star has died, but for the millions who enjoyed his output, it's a loss. It's a loss because he was a success story that many found inspiring. It's a loss because he was most possibly a very nice person in a cutthroat business, It's a loss because he was way too young. It's a loss because he was so hot on video. It's a loss because maybe thanks to Project 2025 we won't have porn in a very near future...

So, hope you're in a much better place, Marcel. You have certainly given me (and many, many other men) a lot of joy. You will be missed.
