Oh, Vicious!
Oh, Matt, I’m gonna forget that you said you didn’t like Mid Century Modern. And I’m gonna do that because you’re absolutely right about Vicious. It's a fantastic series and one worth visiting. At least twice. Yeah, it’s that layered.
For some gay men, the couple in Vicious rings very familiar, yet somehow ‘new’. That kind of gay men (witty, smart, cutting, knowledgeable, with a penchant for expansive gestures and owners of an even bigger heart even when they try to hide it) feel like people we know.
I remember when I was a wee gayling, how the 'older' men I met seemed utterly sophisticated, cosmopolitan, cultivated, seasoned. They KNEW of the world and its intricacies and could recite Wilde or talk about music or movies like nobody I knew. They also had the most dangerous wit and would leave anybody panting in psychic pain after three or four well-administered sentences.
These men in Vicious are now almost lost in time. And we are all the worse for of it.
XOXO
P.S. You can catch ALL of Vicious episodes on Tubi. I don't have cable and I refuse to pay for streaming, so I watch TV and movies using Tubi, Hoopla and Pluto. All free. So what if I have to put up with a commercial or two? I am not that spoiled even though I may have borrowed a password or two from a friend very often.
P.P.S. Yes, those are Derek Jacobi and Sir Ian McKellen.
I love "Vicious" -- absolutely hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSame!!
DeleteI think that kind of writing (and acting) should be required in every sitcom ASAP on this side of the pond.
XOXO
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteYou're always talking about not having cable, so....

HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteVicious was a riot! I was able to catch it on our local PBS affiliate on Sunday nights. Thanks for posting this. I’ll have to see if I can catch it on Tubi.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Yes!
DeleteI did that, too! I still have the PBS app in my TV. And it's all there on Tubi for the taking..
XOXO
We love Vicious!
ReplyDeletexoxo
PS I love BEING vicious, too.
Hahahaha
DeleteWell, no question about that!
XOXO
Watched it during the first run. Hilarious. And Jacobi and McKellan? YES, please! Jacobi caught our attention with "I, Claudias," (which you can catch on YouTube -- highly recommend!) and Sir Ian caught major fire with LOTR, of course. Just keep in mind,, Vicious was a decade (or more?) ago and Brit TV was and is way ahead of us with that kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Absolutely top notch.
DeleteJacobi was excellent in I, Claudius. Excellent. And yes, it was probably 2013-16? when it came out. And yes, it was way ahead of its time. Love it.
XOXO
Thanks for the recommendation, Sixpence. Vicious sounds like must-see TV.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Mr. Shife!
DeleteAnd it's a super fun series. Really recommend it.
XOXO
Jacobi and McKellen are both royalty and, as a pair, they can’t be beat. I do love watching episodes of Vicious but do you never feel like they are just TOO cruel and hurtful to each other sometimes? I guess I’m, like my mother said, too sensitive.
ReplyDeleteOh, they are.
DeleteThey make acting seem sooooo easy! And they can be well, vicious, but when they show love for each other? Now, that's when I feel like crying.
XOXO
Vicious....hands down the most witty...snarky and acted gay series yet!!!!! That show often had me in years with the cutting quips. And their day hag Francis de la Tour is fabulous!!! I'd so have been Violet.
ReplyDeleteAnd Iwan Rheon as Ash was ADORABLE!!!! He and his pecs!
It's fabulous, no?
DeleteFrancis is just impeccable. And Iwan? Oh, I'd eat him with a spoon.
XOXO
Vicious is so vicious !
ReplyDeleteThat’s what makes its so enjoyable and funny.
Jacobi and McKellen were born for their roles and Frances de la Tour is their perfect foil.
Saw them on PBS in So Cal, PBS is a treasure, don’t let Trump and his magats destroy it.
-Rj
They are just sooooo GOOD!
DeleteEverybody in that series is outstanding. Everybody. Seriously.
And PBS needs to survive the MAGAts!!
