It has changed a lot in my lifetime. It was a taboo subject in the Catholic household where I was raised and I thought for the longest time I would be going to hell if I did the five knuckle shuffle. Now that I am raising my own kids, Mrs. Shife and I have been more open about it with them and let them know it is a perfectly healthy thing to do.
