That's the title of one of my favourite songs. The most lethal, the most essential thing is to hear your own voice. Also, keeping up with the idea of writing as catharsis, this one blog is dedicated all to myself. More solipsism would be hard to find. And I like it like that. Oh, and this is a queer (and self-proclaimed 'ADULT') blog so go ahead, make your day... mine is done.
One of the most appealing facets of @jerrodcarmichael’s act is that his vulnerability is on plain sight. Even if sometimes it appears in a slightly reluctant way. In my book, that is essential in a good stand up comedian’s act. His is also a routine that does not avoid talking about internalized homophobia, sex and racism. Because as we all know, internalized homophobia, sex and/or racism are constants in many people’s lives (still) today in America. Oh, and perceptions of masculinity. Let’s not forget perceptions of masculinity. That one really is a doozy.
So I recommend this special. If you have HBO or know someone who has it (or a password, dear) you should watch this. It's funny AND on point. If you don’t, just put his name in the search bar in YouTube. You will go down a rabbit hole. But it’ll be fun. I promise.
First off I will say I have a wee crush on Jerrod because he's cute and funny and smart and sensitive and open and vulnerable; it's comedy for thinkers. xoxo
Oh yes! I binge watched the whole series in a weekend. So funny. And this stand up was edgier than Rothaniel, for example. And you have to watch On The Count Of Three.
Yep, that's a drawback. But his youtube bits are hilarious. (Check that link for the SNL monologue!). And On The Count Of Three is streaming. Recommend.
I have always enjoyed him!!!! I don't see many comedians much lately as I watch very little of the television, and lately am finding less and less time to be online. So I enjoyed that!!!

Interesting. I was expecting you to do more for Juneteenth.
ReplyDeleteDave, Dave, Dave.
DeleteSweet, sweet Dave. As always, the trees impede that view.
I can lead a horse to water, but making him drink? Not up to me.

Big says,

We watched that shortly after it was released. Funny as hell, and filled with all kinds of truth.

Meant to add that we watched his series, too. If you haven't watched that, do!
