Oh, Noah's Arc..?
Remember Noah's Arc?
I do. It's been twenty (!!) years and I still remember that series. I still have the DVDs (and nowhere to play them, natch). Now you can stream it almost anywhere and/or watch it in PPV. But back THEN? It was groundbreaking. Not only because it had gay men, but because it had gay Black men doing gay things. On film. In a series. On Logo, that was a gay channel. And none of those men were in a gang, or in prison, or carried guns or were dealing drugs or unemployed or had two baby mamas or were doing drugs.
That is why it was groundbreaking. Because we all know that Black gay men (even right now) are either invisible, demonized or fetishized. And that was more than true twenty years ago. And now they're back. Right on time, because at this time and place, BIPOC need to be visible. Especially if we are going to have some Queer representation in media. It's gonna be on Paramount+/Showtime, so if you have Paramount+ (or know someone who has it, get to it!)
XOXO
P.S.If you have time, here's the actors talking about what Noah's Arc was back then and why it still matters.
Happy Pride!!
I saw the movie the other night. It was cute and Jensen Atwood still has it ... and could still get it.

I've never even heard of the "Noah's Arc" series! But the trailer for the movie looks hilarious! Unfortunately I don't have Paramount Plus but maybe eventually it will stream somewhere else too.
ReplyDeleteOh it was a great series.
DeleteThe movie is now only on Paramount, but hopefully it'll be available somewhere else. Showtime also has it.
And there's always youtube to catch up with the old episodes.
XOXO
HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteThe original series, 2 seasons is on Paramount+. However, you do have to have the premium plan for the movie, and the new series, I’m sure.
I haven’t seen the original, but you KNOW I added it to My Stuff. 😎
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
I get paramount essential, I wonder if that's the same thing as paramount plus... probably not.
ReplyDeleteI loved Noah’s Ark. It wasn’t always at the top of its game, but it was the only game in town and groundbreaking. I miss those guys.
ReplyDeleteBig says,
ReplyDeleteDon't remember anything about it - but we didn't have LOGO. The film looks hilarious! We'll have to give it a watch...I think we get Showtime.
XOXO
I remember trying to get into that show at the time, but there were so many other shows on with it I just felt too saturated. But I have my best friend of 32 years a black man and he's always said how tough it was for them to come out and be gay in a circle of friends and family. It's even less accepted than for us white men.
