Oh. A tour…?
So here’s a short tour to The MET's Superfine exhibit. You know, the one that people payed a LOT of money to attend. So here it is, just for you. In the comfort of your home/car/treehouse. You just have to press play.
But really. If the interconnection of fashion, race and capitalism from the 18th century to today do not ring your bell, just stay for the pretty garments. It’s also a brief exploration of the idea of dress and grooming function as tools of power, distinction and dignity. There's something for everyone here. Gratis.

P.S. I was left wanting to know who the gentleman in that painting of the hunting scene was. The one with the white breeches and the red coat. Yeah. I wanna know who that is.

I usually get up to the Met to see these exhibits, but the next time I'm in New York will be for gay pride and I don't think time is going to allow to see this.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to add. That Im glad Anna Wintour and Company are in charge of these exhibits because they make it a whole intermursive time which is incredible.

I’m not there to pay the price this time but my last visit to the Met for a special fashion exhibit was amazing and the price was infuriating. This would be the same experience. Thanks for giving it to me for free and without the crowds.

DeleteIt is interesting and even more, educational. And every exhibit that deals with clothing and artifacts that can be damaged or discolored by light are like this. It was the same in the Bowie exhibit at the MOC in Chi and the Rolling Stones exhibit in the Navy Pier years ago.
