Oh, Karma...?

I love @BoyGeorge. I've always have. I love his music with Culture Club and also his solo efforts. And I think he's a very interesting person to boot. You have to be, I guess, after being in the public eye for such a long time. I also think achieving THAT level of fame when you're barely 21 years old is a heavy burden. When I was 21 I could barely think about my future, let alone be ready to face world scrutiny while keeping a secret relationship with a bisexual man with whom I worked while making tons of money for a corporation. And the thing is, I think people really underestimated Boy George (and Culture Club by default). Proof is that he's still going (and so is the group, sans Moss) more than forty years after they were accused of being a flash in the pan. Such sweet revenge.

I am currently reading Karma, Boy George's autobiography, after devouring Take It Like A Man, a memoir he wrote with Spencer Bright in the early nineties (both courtesy of my trusty local library). But really, that first book came out fresh the first scuffle George had with the law (lots of cocaine involved) and before he had that episode with the sex worker. You know which one. And I’m hoping in Karma he goes deeper into that and his feud with some ex-lovers (I’m looking at you, John Moss!) something that he mentions by passing in the podcast I'm posting below.

He seems to be in a much better place. Still raising hell, but with a steadier hand. The Three Principles approach seems to be working wonders.

XOXO

P.S. He's also got a brand new solo album coming out:

  1. I love Boy George. He's done a lot, been through a lot, fucked up a lot, and come out of it fairly well for the most part.
That said, I will leave with my fave Boy story. He was having a photoshoot for something and as he put on the clothes he said he didn't care for the pants because they were like a cheap hotel .... no ball room.
    THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!
    xoxo

  3. I liked Culture Club, but Boy George? Nah. Instead of learning from his mistakes, his attitude has always been "just fuck it." Then he moves onto something else, screws that up and either gets fired or quits. I don't see him a a good role model for anybody.

  4. I too always loved Boy George!!!! And it wasn't till the 90's early 2000's I really enjoyed a set he did at the Palladium in NYC as DJ. And he had us queens having some series church on the dancefloor. That helped prolong the career when he was getting a bit quiet and BAM!!!! he surprised everyone with excellent house music. I still have every CD he did. One of my favorites was one he did with Pete Tong. And I love he says want he wants and just give a shit.
