Oh, Between A Frock & a Hard Place..?

I still remember when I first saw The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Watching that movie was a revelation. The movie portrayed one of those fish out of water situations where the characters' gender was a non-issue and it was the interest they generated as human beings what drove the narrative. All those actors were fantastic, too. This is Hugo Weaving before The Matrix, Guy Pierce before Memento and Terence Stamp, playing one of the first Transgender woman I saw on screen who was not a joke or a cautionary tale.

Terence Stamp also narrates this documentary, and I think it's very appropriate to have him here today, as an homage to a fantastic actor and a fab ally. Godspeed, Terence. You were fabulous.

XOXO

  3. Oh, I MUST come back later and watch that documentary! LOVE that movie, what a classic! Who can every forget that iconic scene of the bus going down the road with the giant high heel on top with its scarves flowing in the wind? RIP Terence Stamp, another one of the greats gone.

  4. Big says,
It was his fearlessness that made him a great actor. That film made history, and I can't imagine any other actor in the role.

  5. Many of my friends said I'd be Felicia....but no. I saw myself in Bernadette ALOT. From mannerisms to a smart mouth and being snarky. Terrance NAILED that part. And part of why that is one of my favorite gay movies is because of his portrayal of Bernadette. At least she lives on in me!!
He will be missed. He was a great actor in everything he did.

And as Bernadette would say - "It's racoon time again."

    1. Oh, you're too smart to be Felicia.
Maybe that pretty, but I could see you as a Bernadette. And he did nail that part. The nuance, the perfect gesture, the way she drank!!
