Oh, Ronan…!
Oh honey…!
Oh, yes. Movies. The @criterioncollection is a fantastic way to have some of the best movies ever made at the tip of your fingers. Some of it still requires you to have a DVD player (remember those?) but many stream through your trusty local public library. If you don't have a library card, get to it!
I love Ronan’s choices, BTW. Especially Rosemary’s Baby (scarier than any Final Destination or Anabelle movie) and Klute (Jane Fonda, baby!), but here’s my top five Criterion Collection movies:
Stranger by the Lake.
Lust and death in French? Sold.
“Now it rubs the lotion on its skin”
I had nightmares about that basement.
Akira Kurosawa is timeless.
For real. Watch this and count the times modern day directors imitate him.
I love this movie .
I love Marilyn in one of her best dumb blonde roles.
Also, that “Nobody’s perfect” at the end!
Fassbinder’s adapting Jean Genet’s novel and Brad Davis playing lead and making real one the most fascinating portrayals of gay desire I’ve ever seen.
So, do you agree, Constant Reader? With me? With Ronan?
What are your faves? Go on, it’s just us here. Let’s have a kiki…
XOXO
Longtime Companion; Sunset Blvd.; All About Eve; All of Us Strangers; Querelle, yes; Brazil; Silence of the Lambs; To Kill a Mockingbird; 12 Years a Slave .... I could go on and on ...

Love!
DeleteAll About Eve is mandatory viewing for any gayling. Longtime Companion still gets me tear-eyed...
XOXO
Big says,
DeleteFantastic list, Bob!
I saw "Querelle" in the 80s and loved it. I was a big Fassbinder fan back then.
ReplyDeleteFassbinder had a string of fantastic movies, right???
DeleteHe died too young.
XOXO
I realized I’ve never seen Stranger by the Lake. (I’ll have to do something about that.) As for the rest of your list, I agree! Querelle was astounding and I loved Brad Davis. And I love Ronan’s list, too. I guess I should try Barry Lyndon again. I was one of those people who hated it at the time. Jerry loved it.
ReplyDeleteStranger by the Lake is a very interesting movie. Sexy, dangerous.
DeleteBarry Lyndon stands the test of time. We watched it last year cause we were doing a Kubrick weekend.
XOXO
The movie bit is nice, but you fail to mention how political he is. I follow both him and his mom. They are both politically outspoken against the MAGA regime.
ReplyDeleteBabes, did you check the link?
DeleteAnd this post was about the Criterion Collection. Movies. That kind of thing...
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteLove both lists, and I think Stranger and Querelle are the only ones I haven't seen. May have to rectify that. Bob's list is a very good one, also. I'd have to peruse the Criterion collection to know what they have.... But without doing that: The Lion In Winter always tops my list of films; The Sixth Sense, Brokeback Mountain, An Early Frost, and Nuts.
XOXO
I love An Early Frost.
DeleteOne of the first tv movies to deal with AIDS. The Lion in Winter? Classic.
The Criterion collection in your public library may be huge and have both streaming and DVD options, btw.
XOXO
