Oh, It's in Your Electric Bill…
Oh yes. The 'data centers'.
There's one near the manfriend’s house and we used to call it Area 51. Because it is in the middle of nowhere in DeKalb county, where there's mostly corn and soybean fields. And we discovered that description is not far from the truth. It's just a bunch of cinder blocks with a parking lot. You don't see anybody going in or coming out but you know something's up. It belongs to Facebook. And it needs minimal personnel, so it's not even helping the local community. Unless you count the solar energy farms that are taking over the cornfields...
BTW, my electric bill has gone up. I was thinking it was the air conditioning, but it has not kicked in in weeks because the weather has been very nice (for a summer). So when you get your next energy bill now you know why it is just slightly high...

ReplyDeleteSome of the numbers in this video are astounding! How is the average citizen going to afford an $800 MONTHLY electric bill? For some, that’s a month’s pay. I’ve heard stories where new small electric plants are being built to power the data centers and the cost isn’t fronted by them. That cost, as mentioned in the video, is socialized across all the customers. Capitalism for me, socialism for you is their mantra.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
But socialism only when it serves their purpose to spread their costs to us.
DeleteOh, we've got several on what was the outskirts of town --- cause the Private Equity firms are building houses like crazy here. Result: Higher electric bills and higher rents. Even though our economy is failing due to lower tourism and corporate price gouging.

To be more to the point, this is all about AI which uses massive amounts of wattage in order to calculate.
