Oh, Adler & Doonan...?

Ok, so now that we're starting Fall (and it's going to start getting chilly) I thought it would be fun to look at a house that's all color and sun and light. It's also a combination of the taste and personalities of two people and the way they see the world (and their world) and how -again- appearances are deceiving.

I enjoy the 'glowy vibe' the whole house has. I think they achieved that with the use of color and the artwork (the flea market finds and the furniture are fab, btw). There's a certain symmetry that's not made obvious immediately because of the use of interesting objects and light, but if you squint a little, you find that there's something really 'conventional' in the unusual placement of things and the use of color.

What I find most fascinating is that two people that seem so different (they talk about their first date, thirty years ago!) can make a house so finely attuned to who they are and so descriptive of how being creative is so uncontrollably fun.

Also, Foxy!

Congrats, Simon and Jonathan!

XOXO

P.S. Congrats to Bob and Carlos, also. You wild kids, you...

You are OTP.

  1. I also never say no to a high-low moment ...
I love the colors except for the Tiffany Blue ... I loathe color, but that's just me.
I love, however, the bold dark kitchen!
    And it does fit Florida

    1. I actually don't mind that Tiffany blue?
      It's very... Florida?
      And that kitchen is fab.

And you're welcome! Hugs to Carlos.

  2. Big says,
Oddly enough, I don't mind the color, though the kitchen is a a teensy too dark. The front of the house is really well done - the porch, the landscaping. The rear yard isn't as inspiring. And I'll say that my experience in England was that their yards are very well manicured.

P.S. Adler is quite impressed with himself, isn't he? LOL

    1. I actually like all the colors.
The kitchen is moody, in contrast to all those cheery colors. And that house is fantastic. Would not mind living there.
      Adler is quite interesting.... LOL

  3. I love the color, hate the clutter.

I did watch both seasons of Merli, I'd have emailed you what I thought, but don't have your address. So: season one was great. Season 2 fell apart mostly because of the writing. The HIV story line left the writers with a number of supporting characters they didn't know what to do with, and so they ended up with bland, forgettable storylines. Rai just put in appearances until he suddenly decided to leave for India. Major characters from the first series and season one simply disappeared. And I think the song Pol sings at the end should have been https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvWRMAU6V-c 😎😎😎

    1. Dave, babes.
      It's called 'decorating'.
And I kind of agree with you. The first season is superior. I think they may have been thinking about a third season, hence the loose ends.

      LMAOOO
      That song is from Encanto!!!

    2. Yes, it's from Encanto and it's called We Don't Talk about Bruno. If you look at the comments for season 2's trailer so many are about wanting to see Bruno, and in season 2 Bruno and his grandmother were totally left out. I did like Bruno better than Pol.

    3. Hahaha love the connection!
And you are right, Bruno is kind of set aside. Pol is cute, so there's that...

  4. I adore them....and a fan of Alders pottery. He has a great shop in Philly, and once did a pitcher of Lady Bunny I adored, till I broke the damn thing. The house meanwhile would give me a migraine. I'm not fond of pastels anything to much...and I bit too kitschy for me personally, but it's them alright.

Years ago back on Fire Island, I recall a gathering where Jonathon Alder had to many and streaked naked to the beach! And he always looks great in white jeans.

    1. They're fabulous!
Alders is a great artist on his own right. And I can see the house being a tad kitschy (you know Simon's taste). And Alder is a looker.

    Beautiful home.
I would furnish the home in a mixture of contemporary and colonial styles- Chippendale, Duncan Phyfe, Federal, Adams, Sheraton and Hepplewhite.

    1. Ohhh that would go with the outside, no?
And I would change a lot of stuff there. Still, I think their style is very cool...
