Oh, wonder why…?
I have forever asked myself: "Why do the MAGAts always vote against their best interests?" over and over. It seems counter to reason to me. It really amazes me how stupid and bovine their thinking is. But there's a reason for that, apparently.
When I ask around, the first thing that people mention is 'money' when voting Repug. Especially the Gay Repugs. But they can never pinpoint what the exact cause of their (perceived or real) lack of wealth is or where it comes from. Repugs blame immigrants, minorities or the government itself (when the president is a Dem, natch!) for the fuckery afloat. They never look at who they are voting for and what they do once they are part of the government. Or who benefits from the way they vote.
I know I sound somehow snotty when I say I consider them ignorant, but they are, Blanche. They are. There's no critical thinking involved, there's no media literacy (they only look at social media for information) and an absolutely mind-blogging lack of awareness of where the money is going (oligarchs). It's so very frustrating!
There's such lack of clarity and information nowadays that I feel like hitting my head against a wall at least three or four times a day.
For real.

ReplyDeleteThe 1% have succeeded in placing a huge number of us in silos and echo chambers. We seek out news and information that fits our viewpoint rather than reality. Though I don’t consider myself among the most well informed individuals (I tend to favor more liberal viewpoints) I hope I retain some critical thinking so I can pick out the blatant lies. And I think that’s what an informed electorate should be…able to take some information, even from a trusted source, and give it the sniff test. If it smells rotten, take a deeper dive.

ReplyDeleteDon't ya just love Peter Coyote?
That there video is 100% truth. Reagan introduced the worst of it and Republicans have shepherded it along whenever they've gained control. That's why the economy has tanked in each of their administrations and recovered under democrats. Yet, the misinformation machine the republicans roll out with their Blame Game convinces their voters to get angry and turn out to vote. Meanwhile, the democrats figure everyone's doing well and will vote to keep it going. Oops....
