Oh, the XVIII...?
Oh, yes.
The 18th century. I'm stuck in this century, apparently. But who wouldn’t? The American Revolution, James Cook exploring the Pacific and the advent of the Early Modern Era. It was also the ratification of the American Constitution, you know, that thing that Cankles trashes every other week.
It was also the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. And this gentleman probably took part on it. Money, honey. Notice the use of the shirt, the cravat, the breeches (we’ve seen that front before) and the shoes (with buckles) and stockings. This man KNEW what clothes were for: to show status. And he also wore a wig. Dusted for the Gawds!
And to think that now Bezos wears those Polo shirts too tight on the biceps. And don’t get me started with the absolute disaster that is Fuckerberg.
XOXO

I could not imagine all that clothing. The fact I prefer to be nude as much as possible might have something to do with that. LOL.
That portrait really does scream “status,” from the wig and dusted hair to the buckled shoes and perfectly arranged cravat, and it is wild to think how clearly clothing telegraphed power in that era. Your jump cut to today’s tech bros in too tight polos is such a sharp contrast, and honestly makes the powdered wigs look almost classy by comparison.
