Oh, Evan....

Dopamine.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter made in your brain. It plays a role as a “reward center” and in many body functions, including memory, movement, motivation, mood, attention and more. High or low dopamine levels are associated with diseases including Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). @clevelandclinic

So color, right?
I know some people really like a lot of color and some people (like me) stay with just a few hues. But I guess it depends on how and where you live. This house spells ‘today’ to me. Very Gen Z/ Gen Alpha: into DIY, absolutely at ease online, whimsical but grounded on what could be profitable. The ‘brand’ generation. I lowkey love the journey.

And apparently there's really something called 'Dopamine Decor':

I have just got this book from my trusty Public Library, literally the day I found this video. Big Bro is watching and he likes home tours as much as I do.

  1. Too much like Pee Wee's House!!!!! I was waiting for one of the chairs to start talking. This would all drive me mad.

If my dear friend Andromeda Strain were here to see the "brand generation" he'd said- 'Oh dear....this poor generation, they have taste but, in their mouths, only."

PeeWee's Funhouse! I do find the place playful, though. And Miss Strain would be absolutely right: this generation TALKS about taste, but cannot really see it. All they see is... trends.

  2. I love little touches of whimsy here and there, but a whole apartment full of it looks to me like arrested development -- stuck in childishness forever, yikes!

    1. Well, that's almost a definition of how I see some Millenials and in many members of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Many Elder Millennials and Gen X-ers cannot relate to them precisely because of that...
The gap between Baby Boomers and Gen Alpha has never been bigger, also...

  3. It's too childish for me. I like the space but the furnishings and such don't work for me.

    1. I love the space!
And much of his aesthetic is fun and even tasteful (there's a ton of stuff there that's NOT cheap and it IS real art) but it does look too... cheery? I love the bedroom, though. Love it.

  4. Big says,
All very young, all very fun. The accessories provide the color --- as it should be. He likes to be "low to the ground." Yeah, wait til you get a bit older, my young dude. LOL. But I do love the lamps and lighting.

P.S. Where are the books? He has no books. Don't fuck him.

Yes! That's a good one. Trendy furniture tends to be kind of 'low' as it is closer to the ground. Custom made for a younger generation, I guess (have you seen the 'cloud' sofa? it literally eats you up). And I did not see books! For real!

    1. I'd have to say that some elements here ARE my style.
I love the bedroom and I'd kill for an exercise room. And some of his artwork is fabulous.
But I can also see how overall this style is not everybody's cup of tea.

  7. Nope. I love whimsey and color, but this would drive me insane. It looks like the decor of a nursery school (where the kids spend the day in chaos). The more I watched the less I liked.

I feel you. The whole Dopamine Decor trend does need to be interpreted through a very specific lens: it's generational. If you are not chronically online many of his choices do not make sense.
I do love parts of this, though...

  8. It tries too hard and falls into the abyss beyond unfortunate and just short of camp. It will not age well.

But I kind of agree. Some of his choices are very 'TODAY' which means they'll be outdated and forgotten tomorrow. It's more trendy than stylish in some aspects.
