I’ll show you mine. Five

This is where the magic happens. Yep, I write the blog on that desk. I also do video calls for work and write checks there. Yes, I still write checks. And I'm doing this post because Maddie was wondering when I was going to show my bedroom. Well, here it is. I actually took this picture from my bed. And don't get fooled by the angle. It's a Panorama and it makes the place look HUGE but I wanted a pic that included everything. Economy, you know.

I have always had a desk, since I can remember. It makes me feel like I have a place to 'do' something and it separates my work space from my 'living' space. It's just a reflex, because I can also work while sitting on the sofa or at the dining table. But I find that having a desk gives me some kind of purpose when I'm hitting the keyboard.

I really like this room. I could live in it, and I actually do. Especially during this Pandemic, I've thanked the Goddess that I have a place where I can literally escape from everything. I have some music (a second generation iPod, natch), some plants, books, and my computer. I can close the door and just chill. It's a throwback to my room when I was a teen, I guess. We always carve our own spaces where we live and make them our own, with our trinkets and mementos. I've come to realize that I'm a memento person. So much shit.

The desk has been with me for years. I bought it when I moved to the last apartment because I needed something where I could write on that didn't take much space. I don't really go for bulky furniture most times. The plants, you had already seen. I like the idea of having that big Sansevieria because I read somewhere that they purify the air. The hibiscus I've had for many, many years. I rescued it from certain death about ten years ago and it has stayed with me ever since. It still flowers sometimes, especially in late spring. They seem to like this room because it gets tons of light.

The 'Yes, Dear' sign is a DIY. Party City central. Watching YouTube has some advantages. It's something of an insider joke, too. Next to it is a memento from my last Madonna concert. I'm a fan, natch so I kept that. I don't think you can tell because I took this photo during the day, but the walls are a chilly white. It has a hint of gray in it. So that's why I have all those prints everywhere. They keep the eye busy in the cool white light. I also have here some of my surviving books and many books that people have given me through the years (most of my books and CDs died in a flood years ago where the basement where they were stored flooded). There's everything there: gay erotica, some non-fiction and tons of Anne Rice novels. On the left, there's also some pics my Gurl took when she visited the Louvre. I love those photos. Been with me for years and years.

The chairs have their own stories. The rattan one I painted myself, another is those DIY moments and I think it ended up looking great. Even if I used two cans of spray paint and it took me two days to get the paint off my nails. The plush chair is my fav. At the end of the day it’s usually covered in clothes, just like Debra’s (it doesn’t have the same history, though, this is run of the mill IKEA, like many of the things I have). But I love having it in the room and more than one day when I came back from work I just sat there for awhile, shoes and coat on the floor, glad that I was back.

And so that's my bedroom. And no, you will not get to see the bed. Because I'm laying on it. And I'm naked.

XOXO

But of course Maddie would do it! That's one of the reasons we love her!
And I like writing checks! Some people do everything online but I still like to keep track of my finances...

  2. How about if I write you a check to see you naked on your bed? Will that work?
And what a lovely boudoir. Tres chic! Love the color scheme and accoutrements!

    1. Oh, Conde...!
You know that would totally work. I could not say no to you.
And thanks! Amid all that white I needed something to make it fun.

    1. Thanks, Debra!
I think I needed to have it so I knew I would not end on the bed all the time.
      And it's the truth! Hahaha

  5. I have a desk, too. And still write checks when I have to (though the penmanship is now for shit; nowadays, the bank calls to verify). I love the black, white, and grey of the decor! Me, too, actually. And the white walls, because the art is the color.
Well, you know my position on being naked: Yes! The only way to live, whenever possible. XOXO

    1. Isn't a desk totally necessary?
And you got it! I just didn't want it to be too white on white. And yes, I do know about you and nakedness. And I was!

  6. "You will not get to see the bed. Because I'm laying on it. And I'm naked." I fail to see the problem?
I think it looks all so warm and welcome. When I first glimpsed the corner with the chairs and mirror, I was going to ask if it's where you shoot your chatterbait cam shows? I also see you have your own little crystal ball!!!! I like the black and white too. I can tell a lot about you style now, gives me a idea of your wardrobe now. If you pictured yourself in a line up, I have the feeling I may be able to pick you out now.

    2. Aww thanks Maddie!
I feel honored you like it ( I think your taste level is flawless). And no, I don't shoot my chaterbate shows but I'm going to consider it in the future! LOL
That little crystal ball was a gift. I think I have two of those. And I agree, at this point you could pick me up in a line-up or a bar, for that matter.
And you have that fan? I love it! It was a gift and it comes handy some summer nights...

  7. I love what you’ve done with the bedroom. The last place had one chair and an ottoman. Is the dresser still in there? This room seems larger than what you had in the apartment.

    1. Thnx bae.
And the dressed is still here. Still too many clothes, natch.
And the room is just very different.Remember the other one had those super tall ceiling? This one is lower and longer. Also, I took that pic in the Panorama setting so it looks HUGE.

  8. You're living space is so cute. You have a great eye for composition. Have you ever considered dressing sets? Or stage design? Or staging houses for sale. You have that skill... your place is adorbs. If you saw pics of the bunker I live you would be appalled! But, we create the space we need, right? I am a very minimalist kind of guy - now. There was a time when my place looked like an antique store. But moving around as much as I did, I kind of got over possessions. I still have my art. And I am on my second CD collection. And my second book collection. I keep the books to a minimum. I give them away after reading. Thanks for sharing your living space. It kind of inspires me to do a bit more with mine. Have a great weekend.

    1. Oh, thanks, Upton!
And nope, I have never considered that. I'm too OCD and would be constantly moving things around. LOL
You are right. We create the space we need. It's been a lifesaver, especially now that we spend so much time at home. And yo should use all those things you love to make your space comfy. I get inspo from those videos of houses I show and from Bob's posts about pretty houses!

  9. You certainly got the Martha Stewart gene!

It is so perfect that I'd be afraid to sit on anything other than you (wink wink). As I type, I'm looking a Costco size bag of toilet paper that won't fit in the closet. Maybe I could talk you into a visit to gussy my place up. Smooch

    1. Hahahaha oh, trust me, Martha would be appalled at some of the things I do!
And I'm surprised you think it looks perfect. I think it looks slightly messy but I do keep a ton of shit around.
And maybe we should plan a Jimmy-home-makeover for when the Pandemic is over! Yay! Road trip!

  10. Very nice, very comfortable looking. Mirrors are great. Big mirrors are greater! I'm not going to say anything about the naked in bed thing since everybody else has already touched that subject.

    1. Thanks, Dave!
And I love that mirror. It helps check that I'm decent so I don't go out looking a total fright. It also reflects all the light that comes in from the windows.
And Debra was right. The whole naked thing was the ish.

  11. Looks good, Sixpence. I love all of your plants, too. I wish we had some sort of design in our bedroom but lately it is more like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. When everyone is home all day, the house just gets messy.

    1. Thanks, Mr. Shife!
I love my plants! They've given me something to fixate on during this sheltering in place. And I think yo need to give Mrs. Shife a surprise and do over your bedroom. Youtube is full of inspiration and it only take some rearranging of the furniture and some paint. Enlist the kids!

      XOXO
