Oh, Love!

Oh yes. There’s racism in the RPDR fandom. I'm not a Drag expert, mind you. I leave that to Mistress Maddie, our Drag Maven. But I will always speak up when I see fuckery. And many queens of color have found their voices silenced and their art underestimated just because they happen to be BIOPC. The RPDR fandom is sadly a mirror of the world at large. No surprise there.

The fact that these Drag artists have had to get out of Drag and make sure people understand there are human beings underneath the makeup and the wigs and the costumes is telling. It tells us how broken this country is. I am not going to tell you what they say. I urge you to listen to their words and hear their call. Racism is alive and kicking and it has real effects on real people.

This is not the first call we hear to stop racism in RPDR. Honey Davenport created a video addressing this same issue back in the Summer. It's incredibly sad that such incredibly talented artists have to come out and make sure people know they are human beings in order to stop the harassment and racism to which they are subjected. It is incredible that we have to still be reminded of this, in 2020.

So hear what they have to say. Be a better ally. Oh, and vote Hair Furor out of office. There's no room for racism in the fandom. Or the world at large.

XOXO

  1. While I know it's all around us, I just don't get racism. I don't get the idea that someone is less than because of their skin color ... ethnicity ... gender ... age ... orientation ... whatever.
Strip away all that stuff and we're all human beings.

    1. Sadly, it's ingrained in some people.
Racism is something people grow up with. They learn it from their family. Hatred is leanred.

  2. Tis true. I have heard at least 6 bad experiences with queen of color and trans from remarks and the way they "were told" they "would" be edited this way. from producers and from RuPaul herself. It's not all as warm, fun, and fuzzy as what we are seeing. While she never comes out directly, if you read between the lines, Latrice Royale has swiped numerous times at the edits she got and the behind the scenes treatments in general. That is the only thing that bugs me about drag race...these girls are not circus poodles. And when Canada drag race was on, I have grown to despise Brooklyn...she's pretty , but gurl...she isn't legendary. If that version comes back they need all new hosts and judges.

    1. I think that may be true.
It's a reality show and the 'edit' is going to be there. I think they're kind of taking the right steps towards a less toxic environment, though. This is not the little show on Logo, that people only watched online. It's a huge show with a national and international following. With great power comes great responsibility, no?

  3. Ridiculous. And, you'd think the gay community would know better. Especially the younger gay community.
Get your popcorn ready. And a good stiff drink. The latest Trump Shit Show is on tonight. Another opportunity for him to embarrass himself and slip further in the polls. 🤣 XOXO

    1. Oh, the gays are just as stupid as any other group.
The thing is, there's tons of teen girls in the fandom. They can be rabid. Oh, the debate was a shitshow. Cheeto lied and lied and sprouted word salad word shit.
He cannot be voted out soon enough.

  4. This is very sad. This is primarily a gay community... and the fans are primarily gay as well. Is this about maturity? Or is it true racism? From personal experience, I can attest that developing social skills and achieving maturity is a struggle when you lack privilege and are gay. This fandom talk - does it come from a place of immaturity and a lack of self-awareness - OR a place of real hate? Anyone who is gay knows damn well what it is to be treated as less than or other. So - what is the gap here? This lack of sensitivity? Just raising questions. This topic deserves a LOT more attention. I, for one, thought RuPaul's world and the world of drag was all about love and hard work.

And the thing is, it's not just the gay community. The fandom has tons and tons of teen and tween girls. And they can be vicious. It may be lack of self-awareness, but there's also racism. Not like the gays cannot be racist. Remember the no fats, no fems no asians?
