Oh, Mr. Brooks

He is one of those men that we may have all seen one way or another in the tubes and have kind of wondered about. At the same time outstanding and self-effacing. His name is Girth Brooks and he surely honors that name. He's also a self-declared straight man, so there's that. But I'm not here to question his sexual orientation. People are free to decide what their own sexual orientation is. If Girth Brooks says he's straight, then he's straight. He just fucks men for money. But I have always wondered about the men who seem to adore him. Don't get me wrong, I can see the man-next-door appeal in his unassuming face and solid body. I also understand the attraction that self-proclaimed straight men seem to cast over the gay glitterati is very strong though. For every five bona-fide gay porn stars there's one gay for pay por star and I have always struggled to find the why. Not like we've got a shortage of horny, handsome, well-endowed gay men, right? Still, there's a never ending cottage industry of self-declared straight men who let themselves be sucked off or ridden by gay men for money. And there's gay men who obviously like that and pay to watch it.

It's obvious that Mr. Brooks has got what it takes to be a porn star. That dick is fantastic. And the body is not bad, either. Not too pumped, not too primed, not too gone-to-pot. You could say he embodies the above-average. He also exudes that aw-shucks vibe of the man caught with his pants down in a very compromised position, but who is not too sure how he got there, and that can be a plus. What I don't truly understand is the intense popularity this kind of man (and the sex acts they perform) has among a certain subset of gay men. From where I stand, he would be perfect as a straight porn star: nice dick, some stamina and no real personality at all. Straight porn usually centers on the girl, the men are just hard, big accessories and they are not usually required to be actually extremely appealing. That's Mr. Brooks. His performances in gay porn seem to be slightly forced, he never kisses or touches the men he's fucking. He's slightly detached. He lets other men suck his cock and rim him, but he basically lays there and lets the other man do all the work. He does not suck cock and he doesn't get fucked. So why the attraction?

I have several theories, all of them probably deranged, but hear me out. Theory number one has to do with the thrill of the hunt. He's a trophy. And I am going to say that has to do partially with that fantastic member, but also with the fact that some gay men find it incredibly thrilling to bed a 'straight' man. It's like the gay equivalent of climbing the Everest. Maybe you could explain that to me? I don't see the appeal. Theory number two has to do with internalized homophobia, a fucked up sense of self or a slightly out of control and undiagnosed masochism. You see, I find most straight men painfully boring in bed. Boring, boring, boring. And as I told you, I have first hand experience with them. They seldom can carry out a conversation (with very honorable exceptions, of course), are mostly affectively stunted, reluctant to commitment, suffering from arrested development and more often than not emotionally distant.  And some have very dubious hygiene, so there's that. I blame society. Can they fuck? Oh, yes, ma'am they can. Very often on command. Like there's no tomorrow. But most any healthy male can do that. Are they good in bed with another man? That would depend on your definition of 'good'. From my impressionistic research acumen, I would say they go from 'average' to the 'downright disastrous' category. Many of them fuck like they're cracking concrete and use their dick as a weapon. They will leave you hanging because they're focused on THEIR dick and their pleasure and not yours and if you let them, they'll clean their cum on your shirt and leave. If that sounds fun to you, then more power to you. I have very different ways to amuse myself.

Oh, I'm all about a man with a nice dick, and a nice body but just a nice dick or a nice body does not a good lover makes. Not even in porn, that is all about the fantasy. Theory number three is the Vampire approach. Some gay men like to service straight men because somehow that gives them some of his qualitie. Bear with me. It may be that somehow, (osmosis, magical thinking) sucking off or getting fucked by a straight man will give them the qualities they see in said straight man (masculinity, power, you name it). I guess I'm not the kind of man who needs to suck on other man's manhood to feel his. Neither I need another notch on my bedpost signaling that I have bedded -once again- a 'straight' male to feel accomplished. None of those scenarios are needed or requested. Maybe that's why I was infatuated with an apparently straight guy when I was much, much younger (it was more like the Dating Game, to tell you the truth, I don't think I would have let him fuck me because that would have broken the spell) and maybe that's why I played with straight men the same way that a kitty plays with a ball of yarn: because I was bored, because they were plenty and available and because I could. I never really considered them more than a quick amuse-bouche. And then I grew up.

So I don't see the attraction of servicing a 'straight' guy. I like my men gay or bisexual. Men who are present when they fuck. Men who focus on their pleasure and mine.
