oh, Roshaante.

When I posted about JK Rowling and the TERFS, Debra commented:

"Statistically, nearly all women who transition from female to male go through a stage where they present and identify as butch lesbians. See, e.g., Elliot Page as a recent example. Historically, when hormone treatment and surgeries were not possible, this is where trans men stayed -- as butch lesbians. Well, now this is just a stage and not the end point. So some lesbians and probably most TERFs accuse the trans men movement of "wiping out" butch lesbians and "erasing" women. It's very ignorant."

And I totally agree. I wonder, though, how would TERFS (and FARTs and TERs would explain Roshaante? What would be their arguments? Or is their beef only with Trans women? I have questions, because their arguments don't make sense.

ROSHAANTE

The LGBTQ+ community has a long way to go still. Really. People wonder about all those letters and the answer is not simple. I think LGBTQ+ is just an umbrella term under which we need to accommodate EVERYBODY. No room for exclusion. No 'gender criticism' or strawman arguments. People always talk about gaining respect and all that jazz but this time the call is coming from inside the house.

Happy Pride!

  1. What an interesting video and an interesting man. “What guy wouldn’t want two dicks?” This video is an excellent resource to explain the intersex community. Though I had to rewind a couple of times to understand the British accent, it was enlightening. I am by no means up on all of the terms, this helped a lot. Roshante should be applauded for his public service and his candor.

    1. Yes, it was. And yes, he is.
This is one of those occasions when anti-trans people kind of have to rewind because their usual rhetoric does not work. And the accent is super cool!

  2. Roshante is gorgeous! At work yesterday, us three gays were discussing trans and asking me most of the question since I have most of the experience. What if we met a man and were attracted to him and he wanted to date of have sex? The other two didn't think they could. I would totally do it!.

It's this thinking I know we have a long way to go. I often do wonder if trans men prefer women or men though. I know most of my trans females friends prefer men, except one who prefers women. My male trans friend would get into bed with me in a minute, but I'm not attracted to him that in that way. I almost did sleep him as he wanted to experience male sex for the first time, but when we made out, all we did was giggle, especially when he was inspecting my equipment. We are too close as friends we concluded.

And I love your blog btw as if I need to tell you again.

    1. Oh, yes he is.
I'm so glad people are having more and more conversations about Trans people. And as far as I know, Trans people are just like everybody else: gay, stratight, bi, pan...
My one friend dated a Trans man and he was like, 'no big deal'. To be honest, I know some Trans men who appear to be much more masculine than I will ever be. It's true.
And the love is mutual, dear.

  3. Agreed. Stop the divisiveness. Stop trying to feel superior to someone else. Enjoy everyone for who they are in that moment. Life is not stagnant. It flows. That's why we flow... that's why gender flows. It's all become about separating people from one another... our economics, our spiritual lives, our industries... tired of it. People do the best they can given their circumstances... but those circumstances are frequently dictated by the heavy hand of others. Tired of living with being shamed, being thought of as 'less than'. It's time we all get over ourselves and appreciate that we're on this big beautiful planet together.

    1. It's exhausting, Upton.
Exhausting. I cannot understand how so many people spend their lives negating other people's existence or making that existence hell. I can't. If sexuality is fluid, why cannot people accept that gender can be fluid too?
I cannot understand that desire to control everything and everybody. That bridge needs to be built and they need to get over it.

  4. I have never understood anybody who is part of any group that has been marginalized by society for whatever reason, doing the same thing to other people.
Why can't we just accept that people are different and that's okay? How hard is that?

    1. Thank you!
How's that productive? How can anybody who has been marginalized turn around and demonize somebody else? Also, other people's lives are none of our business. It's very simple.
      Still....

  5. I love that you said the call is coming from inside the house. Because it's true. The entire LGBTQ community has a long way to go in accepting itself in many instances. Come on, folks, it's bad enough fighting the evilgelicals. Support one another! XOXO

    1. Plus, hermaphrodite (now called intersex) is something which has happened throughout human history. Unusual? Yes. Grounds for marginalization, especially once the person has figured out which gender they identify? No. Just, flat out, no. XOXO

    2. I know, right?
You'd think the LGBTQ+ community would know much, much better. It blows my mind. And you know some people will tell you that being Intersex is different than being Trans, of course. People will pick at anything as long as it justifies their bias.

  6. There's a great novel about an intersex protagonist called "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. It won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Definitely worth reading!

He's very articulate and seems to have his head on right. And I think that some people want to let other people know their truth. And I'm glad they do. Because it's nothing shameful or freaky. He's living his life and educating people. I think it's great. Would I be able to do it? I don't know. But he is, so bravo.
