The WB Adore Quiz

I love Upton's lists and I keep stealing them because they're so GOOD. The thing is, making listicles makes me remember when I started on Blogger and many people wrote their best-of lists. So much fun. You know I'm the king of TMI and making these lists is lowkey the way to babble away while actually going back and thinking about the things that have given me joy. And of course I'm still sharing it with the world. Two birds, one stone. See? I’m practical. So here we go:

Music:

@OMARAPOLLO

Apart from Orville Peck and Billie Eillish I've been listening to Omar Apollo a LOT. Love his vibe and I think the fact that he's on so many of my friends' radars tells me he may get bigger. He's touring Chi in 2022 and I hope I can go see him. Who knows? I may come back one day online and tell you all about a threesome I had with Omar and Orville. *faints*

Honorable mention:

@RELEASEYOURSELF

Release Yourself is Roger Sanchez's podcast and one of my favorites to exercise to or to clean the house to. I run my daily mile listening to it and it never disappoints. It's pure, undiluted House: Tribal, Acid, Drum & Bass, Throwback tracks, new releases and a guest DJ keep things going. My fav track by Roger? A remix of Aretha Franklin's 'A Deeper Love' always makes me wanna speed up my run.

Movies:

Supernova. I love Stanley Tucci and I love Colin Firth and having them both in a movie is as you'd expect, fabulous. It's a great movie and it touches on love, family, aging and time and how we use it. It got me verklempt, of course, because I'm a sentimental bitch. Would absolutely recommend.

Honorable mention:

Breaking Fast. Being a Muslim and being gay is not easy. But it kind of it is when your family is like Mo's family. Super sweet movie that shows us another facet of the Muslim experience. The acting can be uneven but IDGAF. Totally recommend.

Honorable honorable mention:

@ETERNALS

I wrote about Eternals here, so you know I really liked it. Recommend, too. Totally.

Television/Cable/Streaming

I don't have cable, I only do streaming. But there are some very cool series/movies to binge out there:

@SINGLEALLTHEWAY

It's got everything: plants, Instagays, cute leads (Philemon Chambers is a delight) and Jennifer Coolidge. It's typical holiday rom-com but queer. Loved it.

@WYNONAEARP
Demons, alcohol and cool lesbians? I was hooked. Totally bingeable.

@WEREHERE

Whether you like Drag (like I do) or are interested in exploring social issues through the lens of performance art, this is the show to watch. It's literally an ethnographic study, watching Shangela, Bob The Drag Queen and Eureka navigate some of the most homophobic, racist and closed-minded places in the US. Recommend.

p.s. it's only on HBO, natch, but there are snippets here and there on youtube. If you have a vaccinated+bosstered friend with HBO, get thee there and bring popcorn.

@RESERVATIONDOGS Is smart, poignant and totally new. How many depictions of Native Americans do you see on American television every year? Yeah, I thought so. So put this in your queue and binge away. Smart writing and a hint of Magic Realism always help. You won't be sorry.

Books:

I totally love Pete Buttegieg. Dear Anne Marie and I shared an undying love for him and I'm not ashamed. I read his Shortest Way Home book (I bought it in a tiny bookstore while I was shopping with the manfriend's mom who was visiting) and I loved it. Recommend.

Honorable mention:

@JUDYCARTER

The Homo Handbook , is a riot. It's also been banned in many, many schools in the US, so there you have it. It's proof that it's good, too. Buying banned books is one of my favorite pastimes.

Blogs/Sites/Feeds

Oh shit. Well, all of you, of course. And if you're new here, please look on the sidebar and check out my blogroll to keep your ear to the ground. EVERYBODY there is awesome. They're my tribe.

@JOEMYGOD

This is the gay bible. I've read Joe's blog since it was hosted here in Blogger. It needs to be read morning and evening because the tea is SCALDING. Politics and faggotry are my favorite pastimes. I know most of you read him, (Dear Anne Marie left the BEST comments there and is sorely missed) but I'm gonna post a link here just in case the lurkers do not read him. Also, Joe's daddy and I'd climb him like a fucking tree if I had a chance. BAM!

@THENEWCIVILRIGHTSMOVEMENT

Now that Towleroad went the way of Tumblr (I have not been there since Andy left, and I'm not sorry) I've been going to NCRM. He's on Facehook and his @Twitter is a feed of great news and tea. I love supporting fellow queer bloggers. Also, if you talk to him on Twitter, he's super nice. Bonus.

I already have some ideas of what I need for 2022 from Upton, but what about you? What do you recommend? What's the 411, what are the cool kids reading/listening to/ visiting these days? I'm all ears...

XOXO

    1. Ha!
      Low hanging fruit, according to professional writers. And your posts are indeed listicles, Dave: Weather report, Dog report, Job report, Political news of the day Report. Check.

  2. I like these lists too.Im am answering these not as favorites, but more what I'm into currently giving me pleasure.

    Music for me lately has been with Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. Man can that woman sing and give a message. I'm also listening a lot to Trixie Mattel and Ryan Hurd

    Movies. Since I haven't really been going to the movies yet, it's only been on demand for me. Lately I was extremely obsessed with Cruella. Since I like horror, I also saw a creative and excellent one called The Deep House. That would be my ultimate nightmare.

    Tv is pretty much a wipe with me since I watch very little of it. Lately I'm watching the current seasons of Call the Midwife, hands down one of the best written and acted on tv in my opinion. Followed by Grantchester and Baptiste. Surprisingly, I wanted to watch Chucky. OMG. I was shocked by how entertaining it was. And I didn't expect a cute gay love story with the very cute lead Jake and his friend. It almost melted my icey heart. And I adore Jennifer Tilly, much like Jennifer Coolidge. I also watch the international drag show as your aware, which with as many as out leaves little time, HAHAHAHAHA.

    Books, I only seem to read this time of year. I'm currently reading a friend of mine's book Dangerous When Wet from Jamie Brickhouse. It's a memoir of sex booze and his Mother. He's crazy. Up next is the Pete book. I still hope he'll run for President again. 2024 would be my dream, but I doubt he'll run just yet. The man almost drove me to the poor house with donations.

    Blogs sites. Besides what's on my blogroll , I find my blog reading has gone way, way down, as I have been getting busier to even be online, but I do read some other blogs not on my list like Joe, Bosguy and Towelroad...but it's only been like twice a week lately. At one time I followed upwards of 170 blogs but just dropped all of them that didn't post anything in over a year. I think I follow like 50 now.

    1. OMG Alabama Shakes! Yes!
      Isn't she going solo now? She has an amazing voice.
      And you are like the fifth person who recommends Call the Midwife. Ever since Downton Abbey ended people keep mentioning it. And I'll have to see if Hulu gets Chucky! Love Jen Tilly too!
      And I should expand my blog reading. There are some interesting ones floating around Blogger...

  4. I loved Breaking Fast!!! Single All the Way is in my queue. I need to get back to reading JoeMyGod. He is mentioned many times during dinner conversations and between appetizers and entree, I tell m myself that I will get back to reading him again (but then forget by the time I get home). I never thought about listening to a podcast while on the treadmill. I usually do music--I should try it. And as soon as I publish this comment, I am going to Amazon to order The Homo Handbook!!

    1. Breaking Fast was a surprise. I also liked it.
      And JMG has been a staple for YEARS! So good. So up to the second in politics.
      Podcasts are excellent to accompany exercises, because they help you keep your rhythm. Especially if it's House Music LOL.

  6. Lists are tough for me. But I will give it a try.
    Film: "Dune" - because Timothee! and this one is so much better than the old Sting version.
    TV: Totally hooked on Yellowstone. Didn't think I 'd like it at all, but there I went thinking again. "We're Here" is totally fabulous. It's funny, it's poignant. Shangela, Bob and Eureka are teaching steamrollers in some of the most bigoted places in the country.
    Music: As you know, I'm pretty tame in the music department. Adele is a must. Babs is a must.
    Blogs: You. Maddie. Upton. I haven't hit JoeMyGod in a very very long time. Guess I should get back over there.
    Books: Pete is a hero. Like you and Maddie, we sent him a lot of money. "Sooley" was another surprise favorite for me. I know zip about basketball and yet I rooted for this immigrant character from page one.

      Oh, yes. Dune is definitely a must see. And people keep talking about Yellowstone.
      I think Adele is fantastic. She also filled that big empty left by Amy Winehouse so yes.
      And you should check JMG. It's so good. And I'll have to check Sooley.

  8. Hi, hon. Thanks for the shout out (wait... am I NOT family?)

    I just finished two quick reads, Ricky Wilk's two detective novels. Murder Me, Please and Poison Me, Slowly. I just really liked them... not a detective fan, by any means.... but these are charming and gay!

    Your list is great. But, I misread your suggestion for We're Here - I thought you said 'bring poppers.'

    My bad. Kizzes.

      I'll have to check Ricky's novels. Love me some detective novels.
      And of course poppers is always a good thing to bring anywhere!

      And lists are fun, at the end of the day. They can say a lot with little effort.
