Time won't give me time
Full confession: I stole this whole thing from Upton. Because of course I did. It's about time and how it relates to our lives (after Jamiroquai I seem to be in a roll talking about time, honey!). I started answering his questions in his page and then I realized that stealing the post would be better. Yes, I did. So here we go:
Favorite hour of average day:
It may seem funny because I sometimes get insomnia, but I've become a morning person. Usually I'm up very early (around six am) but during the pandemic my getting up time has stretched up until seven thirty. I may go back to my routine now that I'm back to work. And I seem to function better in the morning (I exercise a little, do my walk, the works) than at night. It's funny because when I was in college I could stay up until all hours and I was absolutely fine. I'm old.
Favorite day of the week?
I love the weekend. Live for it. I literally stop most everything and dedicate the weekend to myself, so Saturday is my fav day of the week. Saturn controls the first hour of that day, so it's fitting that I like mornings, no? Yeah, it's a stretch but I do love weekends and my Saturdays are sacred.
Favorite day of the year?
Like Upton, my fav day is my birthday. It just happens to be the one of the days where the Vernal Equinox falls every year, so I'm double happy that day. I've always loved my birthday. When I grew up and learned it was right at the cuspid of the season I was really stoked. I like new beginnings.
Favorite month?
I love the beginning of the Summer. I love going to the beach, so this is one of my fav months. It's still too chilly to get in the water, but I love the idea of going to the beach and walk around and pick up pebbles and stuff. Most of my terrariums have pebbles and rocks I've collected during my June excursions to the lake.
Favorite year I have lived?
1997. That year I made a decision that would change my life forever. By taking a test and writing a letter, I changed the course of my education and my life. I had to uproot myself and leave behind people and things I loved. I have not regretted that decision. After all, it's brought me to where I am now. BTW, the movie Oscar Wilde came out that year and it was the last movie I saw in my hometown....
Favorite year in all history?
I agree with Upton. 2008. Seeing Obama being elected was a turning point for me. I thought this country had at last recognized its past and come to the realization that it needed to change its ways. I was wrong, of course. Eight years of Obama gave us Agolf Twittler, the rise of the MAGAts, blatant racism and corruption like never before in the White House. I still cherish the Obama Years, though. I love my HOPE poster and it's a sign for everybody who enters my quarters to not mess with me.
Favorite decade I've lived?
The Aughts. Those were formative years and all the things I learned and the people I met left a mark in my life that last up to this day. I find the nostalgia for the aughts fascinating (like I said in that Junya Watanabe post) but overall it was a decade of absorbing new things and getting to know myself and my capacity for resilience. Was everything good? Probably not. Fashion (JNCO Jeans!) and music (those Raves!) in the aughts were kind of polarizing. But I did enjoy most of it.
Favorite era to live in?
Ancient Rome, probably. I think I would have liked to have an epic love story with a Roman centurion and would have to escape with him to England and settle there and build those roads and aqueducts. Really. Deep down I'm hopelessly romantic and I think part of me totally believes in happy endings.
A moment in life I could relive as it was?
When I turned 16, my mom threw a great party for me. For the first time ever, I was in charge of everything: I chose the music and the food and the people who were coming to my party. We danced until past ten (it was only parties where adults hang out that lasted that late, remember?) and my mom let us have mood lighting and what we thought was real mixed drinks (it ended up being that the fruit punch just had some peppermint flavor to it) and we felt we were SO grown up dancing until past our bedtime! A few months later I went to live with my dad and I had to grow up. But that birthday was great.
A moment I could relive and change everything?
I try to not have any regrets. I have learned one should not dwell on the stupid shit one has done and that maybe the only things we should be sorry about are the things we never did. But I wish I would have been able to learn more things from my mom and my grandma when I was growing up, but I was too wrapped up on myself to notice how rich their lives had been and how much I would have liked to get to know them better. As for the rest, everything has brought me here. And that, Constant Reader, is something I cannot regret.
XOXO
P.S. Upton, I discovered that The Bangles were covering Simon and Garfunkel! Will you ever be able to forgive me? LOL
I Like the list. Like you, I have regrets but I don't dwell on them because the things that happened made this person and he's kinda okay most days.
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteDwelling on regrets could be the most futile thing ever. If we were to correct every mistake we would not be the persons we are today, right?
XOXO
What a great questionnaire! time is a topic that has always fascinated me, especially realizing how it passes quickly. I don't have time to answer, but I will read your comments carefully.
ReplyDeleteAww Thanks, Xersex!
DeleteGlad you liked it. I thought it was fun. And you know that I love you dropping by the blog.
XOXO
Interesting post! Now we know you even better! And I like all the images and gifs you chose to illustrate it too.
ReplyDeleteHahaha
DeleteI'm the king of TMI, dear Debra.
And those gifs usually send me down the craziest rabbit holes!
XOXO
Nice list. Time is relative. You cannot fix what you might consider a mistake, but you can always learn from it. Like music, viewpoints will change.
ReplyDeleteOh, totally relative.
DeleteAnd learning is what matters, right? Dwelling in the mistake is just a waste of time...
XOXO
Ahhhh me ha encantado la idea para robartela yo a su vez , jajaja, para esos días tan frecuentes míos de baja inspiración blogosferica. Cuando hablas de tu década favorita, ¿que quiere decir "Aughts"?...
ReplyDelete...¡Un gran abrazo!
Gracias, Angelillo!
DeleteQue bueno verte por el blog! Y pues a robarlo. Que para eso se ha escrito.
Y los Aughts es la década del dos mil al dos mil diez. Vamos, que todo tiene un nombre, no?
XOXO
I always look forward to your answers at Upton's so this was a good read. I left mine over there. But I must say, I don't think I'll ever be a morning person. The funny part was when I was at Bloomies doing visuals, I had to be up at 430-5am. Not pretty. I still don't like getting up early, but 730 is better!! It's a wonder I never got a job as a stripper nice I like nights!!!! On weekend and days off, I am always up till at least 3am.
ReplyDeleteHaha oh, thanks, Maddie!
DeleteI started responding and then realized it would be a great post. I did read yours and the others at Upton's though. It's so fascinating!
And I can imagine you'd kill it as a stripper dear, and not only because you can stay up late!
XOXO
Ahhhh y The Bangles son mi grupo femenino favorito de la historia. Me encantó tu selección musical del día ;)
ReplyDeleteMe encantan!
DeleteTengo todos sus álbumes en vinilo, que es por lo que se me ha dado últimamente.
XOXO
Lovely list. Spring Equinox. Summer. We have those things in common, too. Time flits by and we generally don't notice that very much as youngsters, do we? It becomes more noticeable with each decade that passes. "Regrets? I've had a few. But, then again....." XOXO
ReplyDeleteI never knew my bday was literally on the spring Equinox until quite recently. And youth is forever wasted on the young, Big. That is a fact.
DeleteAnd isn't that Sinatra???
XOXO
It is.... "My Way" ~ Music and lyrics by Paul Anka. Who just happens to be doing a Sinatra songbook tour. 😊
DeletePaul Anka wrote it?
DeleteI'm gonna have to hang out with you and Upton to catch up with my pop music knowledge! LOL
XOXO
This is a great little list. My greatest regret is not getting my college degree. But every action makes us who we are now and the resulting experiences. I’ve been very fortunate that my lived experiences have been good for the most part. I’ve been with my company 45 years and have enjoyed most of them, even though I got let go. But that opened another door where I was rehired in a different position a little over a month later.
ReplyDeleteXOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
I think you did not need that degree.
DeleteYou're exceedingly smart as you are. And as you said, every action leads to an experience and we learn from it.
I didn't know about the company! The bastards. Well. at least they hired you right back.
XOXO
LOL. Oh, hon... you are so forgiven. Thanks for sharing this. Your answers are marvelous, as always. I was just tickled to see this. 1997. A big year for me, too. You are such a dear one... and NO... you can't be old. I am old. You... you are YOUNG. As Maddie tells us... live, live, live. - Just think of me as your old Gooch. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteAww thnx, Upton! LOL
DeleteI did recognize the lyrics, but was convinced it was The Bangles. When posting this video, I realized it was a S&G cover!
And it was such a cute questionnaire I had to steal it!
XOXO
