As DJEdaddy said, it's not about guns, it's about politics and the GOPs desperate need to hold onto 2nd amendment voters. Any form of gun control would mean losing those votes, without them, Republicans would never get elected.
ReplyDeleteOh, but it is indeed about the guns.
DeleteIt's about the guns and America's fear that somebody, somehow will take their beloved guns away from them. That Repugs take advantage of that fear and stoke it at the least provocation, it's another thing. But it is about the guns.
XOXO
Look, we saw schoolchildren murdered in Sandy Hook and did nothing; then Parkland, then Charleston, then another school in Texas, then Michigan, Buffalo, and California. At some point We The People need to put down our fucking devices and open our fucking mouths and scream "This is not acceptable," and vote out every single motherfucker in office and replace them with gun control advocate, up and down the ballot.
ReplyDeleteOr, we'll be hanging our heads in shame more often.
There could be a school shotting every day for a year, and still nothing would get done. So sad, it's like OH look another school shooting, nothing to see here, move on. I worry everyone will get de-scientized and not even care.
DeleteToo many are in the pockets of the sinister NRA. Get rid of those bastards. I intend to do just that. If the ones I voted for don't get things done on many issues, I'll be voting for their primary opponents.
Bid says,
DeleteWe suffered the largest mass shooting in the history of the country; 59 dead, 358 wounded, and nothing happened. But HERE? We threw out the rotten republican reps who kept siding with the gun lobby and elected Democrats at local, state, and federal levels.
When Sandy Hook happened and nothing was done, I knew there were never gonna be reasonable gun laws in America.
DeleteI think voting the GP politicinas who are in bed with the NRA out of office is a good first step, but electing Democrats who are willing to at least try to implement some change is also important. There are countries where gun control has been implemented and they go on with their lives like nothing. It's America's fear of the boogieman du jour what keeps the NRA stronghold in place.
XOXO
WAKE the fuck up DC!!!!!!! I'm so tired of this and NOTHING getting done or passed on gun violence, background checks, training etc etc. All I hear is talk talk talk from DC. YET another example of politicians running on campaign promises and then yet again nothing gets done. And they can all save their prayers and messages of condolences. Stop the talk...and steam roll some action down there. Time to start voting for new people if the job is not getting done. So sick of this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Six...Im off to research and sign up.
DeleteWell, just look at where it happened and how it happened.
DeleteThe guy just turned eighteen and cannot drink alcohol but was able to buy an automatic rifle. Several people have pointed out at the corruption of the Repugs, who are in bed with the NRA (that it's officially broke but keeps lining the pockets of many a Repug) and their willingness to use the second amendment as a wedge issue to get reelected over and over while blocking any attempt to implement reasonable gun laws.
And you're welcome! I also texted them to donate. It's little, but at least I did something!
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteWell...it's so common it's gotten tedious to listen to (and/or read) the bullshit "thoughts and prayers" from everyone. Seen yesterday after a report about that particular TX district's GOP Representative (from Mar '21), "“I voted NO on two gun control measures in the House today,” Gonzales tweeted proudly in March 2021. “I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will do everything I can to oppose gun grabs from the far Left.” Then, there's Cancun Cruz declaring "The liberal left, the democrats, are going to politicize this."
These asswipes were reelected AFTER 30 people had been killed in TX mass shootings. I know this going to sound harsh: If people keep (re)electing politicians who care more about their guns and controlling women's bodies than living, breathing people, then how and why am I supposed to feel sorry for them when their communities get shot up?
Don't get me wrong. It's heartbreaking. It truly made me cry for the loss of those children. But feel sorry for the people who keep electing those clowns? No. See, that's part of the problem. We all mourn with them, we offer what we can....and they won't help themselves and reelect the politicians who had fingers on the triggers. We need THOSE people to get wake the fuck up, to get ANGRY enough to solve this issue.
Vote BLUE from local dog catcher to federal representatives.
Sorry for the rant.....
XOXO
Oh, Big.
DeleteYou know rants are my bread and butter. And you know the Right Wing propaganda machine is already in motion to minimize the loss, desensitize the masses and go on like nothing happened. All the while attacking anybody who would like to implement change in gun laws in America.
Rinse and repeat when another two dozen kids are killed.
People are stupid, though. I still hear people saying that they are not 'issues voters'. They vote with their pockets, not with their conscience. There's gun control, there's abortion, there's gay marriage, there's interracial marriage, there's freedoms at stake and they still vote with their pockets.
It's plain selfishness and we all pay for it.
XOXO
One of the few times that I feel happy to be a citizen of the Italian Republic: to have weapons you must have a license, issued by the police. This firearm license is checked every two years, and is never final & definitive.
ReplyDeleteThere you go.
DeleteSensible gun laws. But Americans are too afraid of everything and everybody. They think that regulation means taking away their guns and they go ballistic. Literally.
XOXO
There is a reason for this and the reason is geographic. Italy is a densely populated country, with several mountainous areas (where no one lives), so the police have time to arrive. The USA, on the other hand, except for cities, has miles and miles of desert. You have a lot of space and a very low population density. This is why everyone can and must defend himelf on his own.
DeleteBut it is obvious that a balance is needed and it'd be better that there are not too many weapons around.
Absolute crazy madness.
ReplyDeleteIt feels surreal.
DeleteThat kids are massacred in their schools and all the Repugs do is excuse themselves and the laws they have helped draft. Disgusting.
XOXO
So two days ago The Boyfriend was shot in the leg while riding his bike home from work. A grey sedan sidled up beside him as he rode across a bridge and said, 'hey, guy on a bicycle...' and shot him in the leg. The Boyfriend lost control of the bike, flipped, tore both rotator cuffs, his knee is messed up and, I suspect, he's suffering from a concussion. It just grazed him. He refused medical treatment. I'm more traumatized than he is. Gun violence is seen as no big deal in this country. It's time to either forge a new country, or find a new one.
ReplyDeleteI do hope he will heal Upton! That is terrible news. I can't even imagine!
DeleteAnd I agree with you. I'm thinking your second bit of finding a new one is a nice idea I'm strongly wishing for. The new country doesn't appear to be in the books.
OMG Upton!
DeleteWhat kind of fuckery is that??? So glad he's ok, but it could have been tragic. That's what happens when guns are not regulated. Repugs want laws to force women to give birth but say laws are no good when it comes to guns. Very convenient.
Please tell the boyfriend we are glad he's ok. Also, he should see a doctor.
XOXO
Big says,
DeleteOh, damn! Upton. Glad he's okay and that you'll both BE okay. It will take a while. I didn't get shot but had a gun in my face once --- that alone stayed with me for months. I'm totally with you on finding a new country. XOXO
HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteI think Big hit the nail on the head. You can’t help people that won’t help themselves. If the people impacted by this can’t take action and move the needle, we’re doomed to repeat this tomorrow, next week, next month, ad infinatum.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Totally agree.
DeleteThe people in Texas have voted those politicians into office. They have given the Repugs the power. It's unbelievable. And all because of selfishness and fear. It makes me sick.
XOXO
