Beer, Kevin?

I love houses that feel lived in. I love houses that are not too precious. And I love houses that tell you a story about the people who live there. This house has all those things and more. It feels like someone actually lives there. Yes, he does like his 'things' and there’s a lot of ‘stuff’ in the house, but they all have meaning and they all look fantastic together.

This is not a big house, but I think it's totally darling. It was built in the 20's and it's kind of quintessential California. At least what I think 'California' is. Where else can you find a house that has props from Old Hollywood? Can you imagine having something that was a prop in a Cecil B. DeMille? I'd die.

This house is full of little corners and details that are just fantastic. Kevin is an artist, so of course he'll add touches to everything (the chandelier, the fireplace, the kitchen floor) and that makes everything so much more interesting. Take that bar, for example: it's been in his family forever and it was his when he was a child. How cool is that? And what about that kitchen?

But I loved his backyard. The plants, the stepping stones, that CHAIR! I have seen that chair in many a record cover. It's quintessential seventies. I have met men like Kevin (he did a Fine Arts major, duh) and they always have the most interesting stories and visual style. His IG kind of delves into his whole artistic side and I think it is very cool (@hollywoodforeverkevin).

This is not a curated, photo-ready house. It's a lived-in house. A house where people have lunch in the kitchen and drinks in the backyard. Awesome.

XOXO

He's an artist and his workshop is at home. It's expected.

  2. Nice, but he has too many objects in...

    1. I like the stories he tells with his objects.
And I love that everything comes with a tale. It's not sterile.

Oy. Quintessential early Spanish-influenced CA architecture. That's for sure and I love that part of it - but don't like what he's done to it. He's buried it in "stuff." XOXO

    1. Yes, that's what he says.
I think there's not many of those around. And yes, there's a lot of stuff, but the house is still charming.

He does have a lot of stuff…every shelf of the cabinets has layers of items, some sentimental, others were “finds” on his travels. And he does love blue, doesn’t he? He does have a rather macabre sense with all of the doll parts, so I wouldn’t visit him alone😱. But the structure of the home is fantastic, you won’t find that in modern construction.

Yes, he loves blue. And I think he uses many of the things he collects in his projects. The dolls do give me pause, but the bones of the house are great.

  5. Love the house and garden, but there's a lot of stuff so that it's hard to appreciate the home.

It's hard to get a house with garden and backyard in Hollywood, right? And I love the movie props he's got. That alone would have me listening to his stories.

  6. The cabinet of doll heads... I'm out. Boom. Too frightening. This is like one of those stop motion animation films... eerily creepy. And, yes... far too many details. I'm more comfortable with large statements and room to breath. But good for him. Follow your passion. Find your joy! Thanks for sharing. You find the best stuff. Kizzes.

Yeah, the dolls are very horror movie. But I like the details. I've been in many houses just like this.

  7. That is one nice-looking house and garden. I could definitely consider moving to California if I had that abode waiting for me.

  8. He and that house reminded me of many of the homes in New Hope. Fun...small...electic...and filled with surprise and quirk. I loved it...and I especially enjoy his pattern selection. When I get old this will probably be me...in a little bungalow...filled with fun crazy that makes me happy.

You DO get me. I've been in houses like this. In Pittsburgh, the Mexican War Streets houses are just like this one (and as old) and have that fantastic quirk that makes them special.
And I will also have a little bungalow and we'll visit each other when we're old and crotchety.

      XOXO
