#LGBTQHerstoryMonth | Trailblazers
It's LGBTQ History Month, in case you didn’t know, so there's probably not better time to post this. And I'm just gonna let the dolls talk. Because they know the subject:
Watch Aja, Gigi Goode, Gottmik, Jiggly Caliente, Kylie Sonique Love, Laganja Estranja & Peppermint gather together in a historical photoshoot to celebrate and honor trans trailblazers. Hear from the iconic queens themselves all month long as they discuss their respective journeys, honor queer history, and celebrate the future of Trans Excellence during #LGBTQHerstoryMonth at RuPaul’s Drag Race!
I know, I know, people think there's too much Drag Race (I think very few people but the most die hard fans watch each and every one of the versions of RPDR) but there’s the clear and present danger that are the idiots (like the Proud Boys) who think Drag artists and Trans people are dangerous, so it's hard to deny the influence and effect of the little tv program that could. Representation, dear. It DOES matter.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteHow fun! But how important for people to understand what it is to be trans.... "I am a straight woman." See? The Proud Boys and the transphobes worried about which bathroom the women are using have nothing to fear if they'd only open their minds. #amiright #isRuright You go, girls!
Absolutely.
DeletePeople -especially cis, straight people- have no IDEA of what being Trans means. And the Proud Boys have been up to all kinds of fuckery. Ugh.
XOXO
If I had cable, I might watch, but it is a reality show in which, while the winner may not be decided in advance, the drama is emphasized and that creates stereotypes.
ReplyDeleteBut Dave.
DeleteThis post is not about the program, it's about representation and the need to have more of it. Also, Drag Race (almost all seasons) are in several streaming services as I type. And it' IS a reality show. That's exactly why people watch it.

ReplyDeleteIt’s so important to hear their lived experiences. The haters are going to hate, but violence should NEVER be tolerated or accepted. But that’s where the GQP is going and it’s becoming their stock in trade.

Oh, people have no idea.
DeleteSome transphobes think being Trans is 'easy' and that somehow Trans people wake up one day wanting to serve as a punchbag for society. Really.
Also, fuck the Proud Boys.
XOXO
The one dressed as a butterfly is simply brilliant. It would be worth being queer just for that dress.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she?
DeleteAnd she's a spectacular dancer. She was in America's Got Talent.
XOXO
I saw that video and loved it. I was so relieved when RuPaul finally started letting some trans in the competition. I think your words come to mind though from the past post I feel like every month should be gay pride lgbtq history. I still love drag race and usually watch every season ....my only fear with drag race girls is many, including gay people can't even name any drag queens unless they've been on drag race. Sometimes that upsets me.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's another one that's not behind-the-scenes.
DeleteSo good. Ru had to rethink her approach. She's old school (Ru's 61) but she's come a long way. And Drag Race is good in the sense that's brought topics of gender, sex and race to people's living rooms. And there are other reality shows that showcase other Queens, not on national TV yet, but Drag Race has opened the doors for those, too.
People need to watch those, too.
XOXO
I didn't know (or have forgotten) that October is LGBTQ+ History Month!
ReplyDeleteWell, let's celebrate!
DeleteWith candy and Drag Queens!
XOXO
Acceptance is the name of the game.
ReplyDeleteIt is!
DeleteOr al least recognizing that there are people who are different to us and that we still keep breathing. Really.
XOXO
