Marry, fuck, Kill: Backyard edition.

Well, you know what to do. No clients, unlimited budget. The works. This one surprised me because I suddenly changed direction halfway through the video. And you'll have to admit, this is much more fun than getting that Costco instant backyard 'Party Porch' thingy...

And this one comes just right when backyard parties are gonna be a thing. Have at it!

XOXO

  1. I liked one until she went too far ... the green brick house with the glass flooring on the balcony was my favorite until she did the lily pads and the wall sculpture, and then it all became too much.
The all white stucco with the white spiral; staircase blocked too much of the windows for me and felt a little too Malibu beach house for me ... without an actual beach.
The colorful one? She made the balcony smaller, and I can't do an entire yard of whimsy. It makes my head hurt. Plus, it's so trendy that by the time the yard is finished, it will looked dated.
The winner for me is green brick, though I would totally scale back the lily pads and that ridiculous water feature and dome of that sculpture nonsense.

    1. I guess what I'm saying is:
      Marry the green brick.
      Fuck the white stucco staircase.
      Kill the whimsy.

I love your recommendations. And I was all for the staircase and then I was baffled by the choices. I kind of tend to go with the green brick one, too. Isn't that funny?

I love that wall, but why cover the water???

I am absolutely not sure about those chairs though. I like whimsy, but really...

    HuntleyBiGuy:
I have to agree with Bob, also. Though I like the green space with the white stucco, she closed too much off for my taste. The downside of the green brick one, is the sculpture and the pool, which she then covered up! I think you could just get away with the falling water wall and a smaller pool in front of it, which would give you more entertaining area. The last one has too much hard space for my liking, though I do like the mural wall and the little bit of green she brought in. And good luck getting your neighbor to plant a cherry tree for your aesthetic.

    1. Yes!
The stucco space had me to a point. And I agree with you: the last one lost the 'backyard' idea and went into some Brutalist fantasy. But why?

Had she left more greenery (the topiaries are just way too little!) and taken away those chairs, I'd be in. She also said she'd convince the neighbors to grow that tree so it'd go with her vision. Love that for her.

  6. I agree with Bob on this one. But... ultimately? I didn't like any of them. Even the green brick was too much too much. Thank goodness these people have budgets and real clients to reign them in. I wonder what THEIR homes look like? Thanks for the house porn. Kizzes.

I think I did like her design. It just got a little bit too much for me after the sculptures. And the wall. Yep.

It was the hard surfaces all over that turned me off. I need more green in my backyard!

  9. In seeing their past work from their portfolios ....Sasha is close to my own style. But in this challenge, I could marry Sasha, barely, and kill the other two. What in the blood and stomach pills? WAYYYYY to much going on. I needed a antacid to settle my stomach

    1. I love that you took that into account! Assignment: understood.
I was liking Sasha's too but it ended up being a little too beige and a little enclosed. I like the idea of the vines and the water feature, though. And I will be using 'What in the blood and stomach pills?' from now on. Regularly.
