On Round Tables and the such...

Before today, I have only heard about @marenmorris once, because she had Drag artists come on stage with her in a state with Drag bans. Ballsy. And she's a country music star. Bigger balls.

And here she is, leading a round table on Drag Bans with some very well known Drag artists. That's what an ally does: putting their money where their mouth is (and yes, Lurkie, allyship is indeed possible). And an ally usually guides the conversation among their peers: they are the ones needed education. The idea that it is us, the queers who have to 'educate' the non-queers is kind of contradictory: they need to hear the message from people they consider their peers (we are just the weird people with mermaid hair and unusual sexual habits) to 'get it'.

Remember that for some people, we have a 'lifestyle', not a life. We are homoSEXUAL and they cannot get past the 'sexual' part. They are bigoted and narrow minded, so nobody in their immediate families or community has come out to them (some straight people don't do 'gay' well). They have 'life long bachelors' (think Lindsey Graham) or 'spinsters'. They don't have 'gay' people. That's why it's good when someone like the Country singer next door does something like this.

Kudos to Maren Morris. That girl has more backbone and more balls spirit than any of those big dudes singing about city limits and beer.

XOXO

I had no idea who she was until recently. A great ally. People before money, I guess.

    HuntleyBiGuy:
There are queer allies in all walks of life, though in some areas they may be hard to find. Currently in the news we had the trash governor of Texas, Greg Abbot, amplify a satirical post about Garth Brooks being booed off stage in some small Texas town’s county jamboree because of his stand to continue selling Bud Light at his Nashville bar, and how EVERYONE is welcome there. Unfortunately, neither the jamboree nor the town in TEXAS exist!

When we do see these allies we need to appreciate them just as we appreciate those in our community that speak out. And Maren is a stunning woman.

    1. And thank goodness for them.
I think many people forget how beneficial allies' opinions can be. People stop and listen when the voice comes from people similar to them, I guess. And were you expecting anything less from Abbott?
And bravo for Garth for being awesome.

  4. I've been a long time fan of maren Morris and her husband Ryan Hurd. If she ever wants me to take him off her hands I'd be more than happy to. And yes , she is very drag friendly, as they both are. I just wish videos of this nature at all across the board would start incorporating Queens other than just the drag race girls. I was talking to our young warehouse guy who works in the showroom, and may be a fledgling gay I'm not sure. It's interesting cuz the only drag queens he knows are off drag race. And they are talented bitches.... but it saddens me when it comes to anything drag related they can never consult or collaborate with queens that are not connected with the show. I even had an emails from readers about my own blog. So I've been trying to make a conscious effort to feature queens that are not always drag race connected. God knows there's enough of them. That was an interesting video I have to say. And a good topic and need to be heard.

And I liker her voice. And I think this is a step in the right direction. They have Landon there, after all. I think they talk to Ru girls because they are very visible and are using their social clout for good.
And think about the young warehouse worker: if you were talking to him a few years ago, he wouldn't even know what a Drag Queen was.
Visibility. That's what conservatives are afraid of. The well-known Queens prop up the bar-next-door Queens.
And it was very interesting indeed. Good for Billboard for bringing this up.

Especially coming from a Country star. Country is not the most queer-friendly music genre, after all...

  8. Wow... The Stroll looks riveting. As for Billboard... well - how fabu! Now I have to find out more about the Maren Morris. And btw... she's right. It's all drag, honey. You put on a suit and tie, you put on an apron, you put on a pair of tight jeans and a wife beater... who you trying to be? Yourself. That's what drag is... it's a physical magnification of who you are on the inside. How you see yourself. People who do lowest common denom clothing all the time? They are out of touch with who they are or they don't like themselves very much. That's why I love to be naked outdoors... that's me, honey. That's my drag. Kizzes.

    1. Oh, I absolutely recommend The Stroll. Riveting.
And we are born naked, as Ru says, and the rest IS Drag.
And being naked outdoors should be liberating. I need to try it.
