Tweed.
Tweed. It really sounds kind of boring and utilitarian, no? Tweed. What do you envision? Hunting in the countryside? Rainy days in Surrey?
Well, that is until Jim Jones decides tweed is the inspo for the Summer 24 Dior collection. And then we see that a fabric usually associated with hunting and shooting and known for being moisture-resistant and durable taking on a whole new meaning. I love it when designers use unusual fabrics and of course, when the garments are absolutely unique.
I loved the collection. The mix of established menswear codes (the cut, the lines) and iconic Dior codes (the craftsmanship, the luxury!!!) is really stunning. Just look at how they cut a pocket in that jacket!! Damn. Also, I would shank a bitch for one of those shirts. GIMME! They took inspiration from the 1940s and the 1960s and Kim imbues this collection with a kind of easy wearability that belies the incredible workmanship involved in the creation of each garment. Wearing one of these garments would be an honor.
When the runway show started, I literally gay gasped. I had never seen anything like that (not even with Alexander McQueen, who was such an innovator) and I could not wait to see each garment on the runway. Really. The coordination. The technology. The vision. The looks!
So, I posted the full collection below and just for shit and giggles I'd like you to tell me what you'd see me wearing. By now, you probably know me better than my IRL friends, Constant Reader. So go ahead, make my day...
XOXO
I hear tweed and my mind goes to an old I Love Lucy episode when Lucy was to model in a show and had to wear a tweed suit, but spent the day at the pool and was sunburned. She walked to runway in pain, and that's what i think of as tweed.

LMAOOO
DeleteOMG I have seen that episode when they go to Paris?
Or is this another one? Lucy was genius.
XOXO
This was when they went to Hollywood, and Lucy sat by the pool to get tanned and then fell asleep and got burned. And then came Tweed ...
DeleteThis was when Lucy and Ricky went to Hollywood. And to this day that show still makes me laugh.

HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of tweed, I envision a heavy fabric for the fall. Here they have made it’s much lighter and with brighter colors.
I could see you in the cream colored suit with the yellow top near the beginning of the show; the blue jeweled top with the sexy navy shorts; and the coral top with the pinkish jacket and sexy grey shorts. I think those would go well with your skin tone.
And how cool is that stage with the elevators?
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
They absolutely transformed tweed here!
DeleteAnd I think you nailed it. And you know I love, love, LOVE shorts LOL
And that stage is EVERYTHING.
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteOK, f the clothes, I want that stage!! LOL.
The tweed - especially the pilled - reminds of Jackie Kennedy. Not a fan except for some of the sweaters. The hoodies were cool. Some of those shirts were nice. But those suit jackets. Now those were nice! But, sweetie can keep those baggy high water flood pants; they look ridiculous. The wifebeaters as they were paired with the shorts would be way too hot for summer wear.
For you? Oh, I see you in that first black suit, the final cream suit with the gemstones, any number of the shirts but especially the white one with the blue starbursts. Maybe...the wife-beaters? LOL
XOXO
I can agree with the pants. I like to see the "goods and merchandise" I'm getting with my men. Give me a nice VPL!!!! For me it's all about the tops and jackets.
DeleteI KNOW RIGHT?
DeleteWhat a show! And those jackets were absolutely fab. The fit is incredible, especially in tweed.
I love the pants, though. I swing between very fitted pants and baggy, high-flood ones. LOL
And the cream suit with the gemstones is LIFE! See, you know me.
And nope, no sleeveless nothing for me.
LOL @Mads

Tweed can be very light weight, depending upon the thread. When I hear tweed I think of all those butchy British women in brown plaid tweed suits I saw in the movies growing up.
ReplyDeleteWhich is something that surprised me!
DeleteSame with wool, right? And tweed definitely brings memories of British people, no?
XOXO
Tweed? Google AI told me that "a green tweed suit is already something of a statement, so will always look best paired with a white shirt and black tie." Can I pull it off?
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
DeleteGoogle always comes handy! And I'm sure you could pull it off, Mr. Shife. You should try it!
XOXO
Florals and jewels? For Summer? Groundbreaking. lol
ReplyDeleteI love Tweeds. But for me, I like to keep my Tweeds for the autumn and winter. I have always represented them with autumn and nice cashmere turtlenecks. But the colors of the collection are fun and sorbet-ie! Colors not for me to look good in, but I love them. But Monsieur Dior would have a fit to see his name or logo visible on a Dior piece. He never, ever did that and found it gaudy.
Oh, I love floras and jewels any time, Miranda! LOL
DeleteAnd what surprised me with the collection is the way they treated the fabric. I also think winter=tweed!
And Christian Dior was quite the character, no?
XOXO
all of this is beautiful! And what a great idea for a fashion show!
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteEverything is pretty! I could even do the animal print!
XOXO
Nope. I was hoping they would also incorporate the lines from those classic tweed ladies suits... but no. What a tragedy. What a missed opportunity. I wanted shape. I wanted contours. I wanted a bit of throwback. What a disappointment. I would rather wear a sack cloth bag than be caught dead in those jackets or pants. Hideous.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
DeleteBut they did, Upton! They showed the inspo. And you know how hard it is to give shape to tweed. I loved the colors and the way they re-imagined the material for spring and summer, though...
XOXO
