Tell me about it, Villana...

The Trans experience is definitely intersectional and it encompasses several identities and realms. But I, as a Cisgender Gay man, cannot really talk about it. I lack that 'insider's view' to it. But I found this video of @villanamarie talking about her experience as a Trans artist in SXSW and decided to post it here. It's a short interview, but it really is an eye opener, especially for people who have Cis privilege and know shit about Trans issues. Because you just know those are the first ones to jump to it and talk nonsense.

If you are a Cis male and especially if you are white and/or gay and 'passing' (as in people think you're straight). This one is for you.

You're welcome.

XOXO

P.S. I think you'll need to toggle the English captions here, but is she charming and fun!!

... and smart. And that's what the transphobes fear most ...

    HuntleyBiGuy:
The stuff that the Trans community has to deal with is heartbreaking. Here she talks about her early life dealing with her mother, who she points out, was doing the best she could and trying to protect her child.

Like so many Trans people, her life was hard, but she persevered and made a life for herself. Like so many Trans people, their strength and determination is remarkable. But ultimately, their struggles should not have to be. Society has to wake up and acknowledge these people are here and have a right to exist.

  2. We all need to be here for our trans brothers and sisters; their fight is our fight, and we need to not only stand for them, but speak up for them, and shut down the hate speech.
    Always.Everywhere.

  3. Big says,
The thing is, intersex people have been around forever (Brittany Griener, anyone?). As with everything folks don't understand, they fear it. And the world is a terrible, judgmental place --- anything out of the normal, anything "different" is not accepted. Full Transitioning (Christine Jorgenson, anyone?) has been going on for a century now ("The Danish Girl," anyone?), and there are some out there who you would never even suspect when seeing them.
Someday, in my fantasies, everyone will be accepted. XOXO

    1. Oh, people fear what they don't know. That's true.
And there's always been Trans people. Always. But the bigots deny that. They also believe a historical character is the son of god, so there's that.

  4. I'll be honest, I don't understand Transgenderism. As I said to a work associate who wanted to get into an argument about there only being 2 genders, just because I don't understand it doesn't mean I have to attack it. As an example, I pointed out one of our lot attendants who is seriously autistic. Some associates make fun of him, I don't, he's a nice man who tries. I don't understand how neurotransmitters work. We are not even close to be perfect, we are all different. I had a nice conversation with someone in transition on Monday, and it wasn't about why, it was about blinds, and it was actually a good conversation.

    1. Yep.
We don't need to understand people's gender identity. We just need to respect it. Something the bigots will never do.

  5. Everyone is too worried about everyone else and there business. No one should have the right to tell other how to live there life or what to do to their bodies. Period. But Ill say....the trans community in the LGBT are a bunch of tough cookies!!! We need to do our part and support them. If they cant rely on their own community who can they lean on?????

    1. I know!
What the everlasting fuck? Trans people go to the bathroom to pee, not to assault others. Also, it's their bodies, so why are there people telling them what they need to do with them???
Trans people have always been there for others. It's our time to be there for them.

  6. Oh, how exciting. Isn't it amazing... the barriers that are being broken down over time. They fall like dominos! And sometimes it takes just the right push... Kizzes.

We are taking baby steps towards acceptance and then the bigots find a new scapegoat. Ugh.

Constant. But because other people don't seem to be able to mind their own business.
