Oh yes. Clothes.
All in a day's work. Because in the XIV century, if you were not rich, you'd probably be doing what this man was doing. Simple, right? But there were four styles of underdrawers! The belt was practical and fashionable. Also, linen was king. And as always, clothes maketh the man.
Just thank the Goddess you did not have anything to plough in January in England around 1340...

Love these little vids. Life was quite difficult if you were a commoner. Your day often began before sunrise and, if you were a servant, didn't end until the head of house retired for the night.

DeleteIt was THE fashion of the times for people in this social bracket. It was unescapable and it defined the person and their occupation. The little flairs that people added (like that belt) tells you that people always wanted to personalize what they wore, even if they were gonna plow the fields..

Pretty sure I'd of wanted not to wear Clothes given how impractical and uncomfortable a lot of Fashions were thruout the Ages. Of coarse, I do look back to some of the Fashions I did wear, and OMG... what were we thinking?!
