Oh, Norm and Dale..!
I guess this is how you do it. I kind of would feel responsible for updating a house like this, with all the cultural baggage that living in a house built/designed by such a well known architect would entail. Imagine if you just go ahead and fuck it all up?
I think they did a fantastic job. They managed to make this house feel like a home. The way they use art is outstanding and the house looks well appointed (most of that art must be expensive!) but at the same time it looks like someone lives there and uses the spaces. It’s not a McMansion (none of his houses were, of course) but it feels like it breathes. Good design is priceless. I’d shank a bitch to get an invite to go to a dinner party there.
Also, aren’t they adorable? They are gentlemen of a certain age, and I bet they have tales to tell. But above all, it feels like they are very proud of the house they’ve help revive (it was in a sorry state). And they should be. The place is fab.
XOXO
The inside is STUNNING even though it feels like they are living in a museum. Feel very museum like, with the design elements and built ins. But they did a good job making it feel warm with the interior design part, and the color. This could have went very wrong and felt cold and clinical. But the exterior? HORDID. To fortress looking. Looks cold, and reminds me of a mausoleum in Philly I saw once.
ReplyDeleteI love the art inside.
DeleteI find it so well placed.... I do get the possible museum feel in their sculpture garden, though.
And you know FLW loved the fucking built ins. You know this could have been an absolute disaster. They saved it.
And babes, the exterior is pure FLW. Have you seen his Ennis House in Hollywood??
XOXO
It’s stunning and they did a beautiful job upgrading and enhancing. However, it looks quite like a museum to me. Also, I don’t think I’d like to spend much time with these guys.
ReplyDeleteThe upgrade was more like a reconstruction to me.
DeleteI think the artwork is fab and it makes the house.
And I bet they have AWESOME tea. They both look like they were heartbreakers fifty years ago. I wanna know.
XOXO
Maddie's right, it looks like a museum. Not being able to find the front door might be a reason to avoid it. Oh, and stairs with low risers are made for very old people.
ReplyDeleteBabes,
DeleteI think finding the front door is the first fun thing you do in this house. And I only get the 'museum' feel in their garden with the sculptures.
And so low risers are good or bad?
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteOMG. This is stunning. You cannot go wrong with FLW architecture - everything he designed was done with fitting into the landscape. Back when it was designed and built would've given an entirely different feel to the exterior.
They've done a great job in restoring this.
XOXO
I love the house.
DeleteAnd yes! FLW was an expert in bringing the outside in. I love the windows and what they did with the patio. They extended the life of the house.
And I can just imagine how that house would have looked with all the cookie cutters....
XOXO

ReplyDeleteThis is a magnificent structure. They’ve done a fantastic job of renovating it and bringing in warmth against the concrete floors. I love what they did with the outdoor space. About the only thing I don’t like is the abundance of 2’x2’ windows. Too much of a pain to clean.
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
That's what they will get houseboys for, cleaning 2'x2' windows. Imagine how long that will take....the gentlemen will for sure enjoy the views.
DeleteI love the concrete floors.
DeleteI've seen that technique used in other places and it's fab. They did a fantastic job with it. That's MONEY.
And I'm with Mads. That's what you have the houseboys for....
XOXO
You know you had me at Frank Lloyd Wright.
ReplyDeleteI love this one, with his red concrete and his low ceilings opening to grand spaces!
And the two guys are cute as can be!
xoxo
PS There's a show on Magnolia TV about a woman and her mother building the last Wright house based on a design that was on his drawing table when he died. Very cool and great history of Wright and his homes.
I think it's fabulous.
DeleteI also FLW and his intricacies and quirks.
And I may give in and watch the Magnolia TV show. I think that woman is a bitch and her husband a doormat.
XOXO
