Oh, this is me, once again …?
Ok, so this is my crib right now.
It's funny how I forgot to talk about this, given that I'm so prone to overshare LOL. I moved here a year ago, more or less. After living in my basement garden apartment for awhile, it was time for a change, I guess. Now I'm back in the Northwestern suburbs (I have lived around here on and off for years now). I really like the space I have now (easier to clean, cozier, my own space, the works) and I've had fun using everything I brought from the other place to furnish it. I decided I was not going to spend any more money than I had to this time around. And I did it!
The thing is though, that making your place your own when you're renting is really a struggle: painting is not a choice for me. I'd love to have some wallpaper (inspired by some of those houses I show in this blog thingy here) and I would have loved to paint a wall or two, but just the thought of having to re-paint everything the second I decide to move out erases that possibility from my mind. So the mood is set by textures. I learned that from Mads.
It's not a big place, but you know I enjoy this space. I really like small places (I had to get rid of tons of stuff and donate it to friends and the Goodwill when I moved here a that felt good! Marie Kondo is right!) and they make me more aware of the things I DO want to have, like some artwork made just for me by friends, my records and the books, that are still in my bedroom but that will come out as soon as I start my winter break. I have not done much with the balcony, though, I gave away some furniture I had there last year. I have plants there now but they'll come in because the cold weather would kill them.
So that's it. I took the photos with the Panorama function of the camera because it gives a wider shot, but it somehow distorts some of the perspective. Oh well. You'll get the gist of it all...
XOXO
P.S. In case you don’t remember I DID have to downsize…

HuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteI love the new place. It looks cozy and lived in. And it has the things that are important to you.
As for not being able to paint or wallpaper, you’ve covered most of the walls anyway with hangings and furniture, so all of that additional work would have been for naught.
10/10 would live there 😎
XOXO 👨🏼❤️💋👨🏽
Aww babes!
DeleteYou're too sweet. But you've been to my place. And I did try to cover EVERYTHING. If I cannot paint, I'll still have some style!
XOXO
I agree Huntley...the art and wall hanging are far more interesting than wallpaper and paint anyway.
DeleteLooks great! I particularly love the multi-paned windows in the dining room and living room, the open concept wall between those two rooms, and all the great ambient lighting. Your place looks very elegant! Wishing you much happiness in your new home!
ReplyDeleteAren't those windows cute?
DeleteThey add a little bit of personality to my little white box. And you KNOW I'm gonna have some ambient lighting. Quick note: there's only ONE overhead light in the house: in the kitchen.
And thanks, babes!! *smooches*
XOXO
Love it; it looks like a great space and I love that it's totally yours from books to art. to tchotchkes and beyond!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Thnx, babes.
DeleteI really like it. And you should have seen the place before I Marie-Kondo'd it!
XOXO
Big says,
ReplyDeleteWell done! I spy a turntable and vinyl...and books! **chef's kiss**
XOXO
Yes!
DeleteI did not give you guys a good look at the turntable or the records, but they're there!!!
XOXO
That is very nice! Is that Thriller on the TV?
ReplyDeleteAww
DeleteThanks, Dave!
Had more color before, but I went to a more muted palette this time.
And that's actually the first season of Wednesday! I was bingeing it in preparation for the second season when I took the pics.!!
XOXO
Now having met you, I can't tell you how much this place looks like you!!!!!!! I could get plain cozy in your Livingroom with you. You also know it make me happy with the texture and the picture collages!!! I LOVE ME a good collection of collages. And I know people want color color color....but nothing wrong with white or neutrals. To me, it gives even more freedom to use a multiple of color with accessories, art, and pillows and drapes. Let that do the talking and like you said no reason to waste more time painting. I love it Six and I know the objects all got stories. All your possessions look so different in this space too.
ReplyDeleteNow where's the boudoir?!?!?!?! LOL!!!!!!
OMG Mads!
DeleteYou know I'd love to have you over and have some cocktails!!! And this is high praise. I remembered that you said that texture was as important as color and I ran with that!
I'll have to make a little video sometime to show you guys all the knick knacks and tchotchkes I have laying around....
And the boudoir is right at the end of the hall... LMAOOO
XOXO
